Section V Playoff Preview: Boys’ Basketball Class D1

The Class D1 boys’ bracket features three teams from Finger Lakes West, along with two teams from Steuben County and one each from Allegany County, the Genesee Region, Livingston County Athletic Association, Private-Parochial League and Wayne County. The tournament opens with two first-round games on Wednesday. Here’s the breakdown:

No. 1 seed AVOCA / PRATTSBURGH (Steuben County)
Record: 20-0
Coach: Brian Putnam
Streak: Currently holds the longest win streak in the state (dating back to last season) at 31 games.
Scoring offense: 86.6
Scoring defense: 49.5
Finish last season: Defeated Notre Dame-Batavia, 79-64 in the Class D2 championship game.
Opponent: Winner of Arkport-Canaseraga/South Seneca, Saturday at 5 p.m. at Avoca High School

No. 2 seed WHEATLAND–CHILI WILDCATS (Genesee Region II)
Record: 17-3
Coach: Scott Lund
Streak: Won three of four
Scoring offense: 58.6
Scoring defense: 47.5
Finish last season: Defeated EMHCS, 62-43 in the Class D1 final.
Opponent: Winner of C. G. Finney / Naples, Saturday at 7 p.m. at Wheatland-Chili High school
