But there he was less than three minutes into the 2021-22 season and the seventh-year coach had Jackson Green sitting on the bench among the Pittsford Mendon coaching staff. A pair of early fouls sent the junior guard to safe harbor.

The Red Raiders won their season opener behind Bruce Wilder’s team-high 18 points. Wilder did his damage in the second half as the senior scored 13 of his 18. Alex Hill added 13 points including two three pointers. Bill Meagher and Wallace Rahmaan both added eight points, Aidan White chipped in six, Zac Ditzel scored four, and Josh Knapp finished with five.

Jason Gibbs racked up a game-high 28 points to lead Churchville-Chili to its first win of the season. Gibbs had at least four points in every quarter, and had his best in the second quarter with 10 points. Joaquan Thomas had the second-most points for the Saints with 13, and Robert Mundins ended the Churchville double-digit scorers with 12. Cam Taylor had four, and Collin Curley ended the Saints scoring with one.
P.J. Leicht led the Blue Devils with 16 points. Leicht connected on four trees with three of them coming in the fourth quarter. Cooper Hassall added nine points, Francis Nwokond chipped in eight, both Justin Sillen and and Nate Grego scored five points.

The Blue Devils grabbed their second-straight win to begin the year behind 23 points from Garrett Clar. The sophomore did his work early with 14 first half points including two three pointers. Phil Nwugwo added 16 points with all of them coming in the first half. Victor jumped out to a 25-12 lead in the first quarter thanks to a combined 20 points from Clar and Nwugwo. AJ Queri and Brennan Hopkins both scored nine points. Nick Leonard added seven, and Cam Ryan had four. Jonah Whittier and Rohan Chitre scored two apiece. Raeshawn Howard, Brayden Steve, and Zachary Herd led the charge for Newark combining for 35 of the teams 47 points. Howard had a team-high 14, Steve scored 12, and Herd added nine.

Robert McCullough connected on a 8-of-11 shots from the floor and finished with 21 points to lead Aquinas. The senior guard grabbed five rebounds and handed out three assists as well. Will Scanlon added 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting. Myles Blackwood scored 11 points while handing out a team-high five assists. Jack Bleier contributed 10 points in the win. CJ Cammack (7), Malahkie Alston (6), Jordan Jordan (4), Mykel White (4) and Jeh’vay Walker (3) also scored for Aquinas.

SOTA picked up its first win of the season behind 12 second-half points from Tyree Moore. Keeshawn Chatman led SOTA in scoring with 22. Chatman found the basket seven times and made eight free throws. Trailing by six at the half, the Silverhawks outscored NE Douglass 25-12 to take over the lead. Moore had 10 of his points in the third quarter. Sam Howland and Aness Jaff both chipped in eight, and Richie Nadal finished with five points.
Chris James led NE Douglass with a team-high 20 points. James netted two three-pointers and scored in every quarter for the Panthers. Chrishton Wester added 13 points including three hits from beyond the arc, and Loren Thomas ended the double-figure scorers for NE Douglass with 11.

Kollin McCullough came off the bench and scored 15 of his 16 points in the second quarter when East turned a three-point deficit into a 14-point advantage. The sophomore guard connected four times from the floor including a pair of 3-pointers and converted on his five free throw opportunities in the quarter. Damani Barley led all scorers with 26 points. Kai McCullough had 21. Quinton Gordan-Smith scored five points while Nigel Copeland and Shamir Caruthers added two apiece for the Eagles. Terence Thompson led Franklin with 22 points. Sha’mere Freeman had 16. Shedreck Knight scored five for the Quakers. Dayvion Scott (4), Tyree Jenkins (4), Tai John Lewis (2) and Edward Seeley (2) rounded out the scoring for Franklin.

Jahan Richetts led Early College to a close victory with a team-high 18 points. Richetts knocked down a pair of threes and scored 11 of his 18 in the second half. Myqyng Arline added 12 points of his own with 10 of them coming in the second half. Jamri Williams poured in 12 more points, and Jamezs Brown ended the Early College scoring with 11. De’Siah White paced Wilson in scoring with 14, the ninth-grader scored 11 points in the fourth quarter. Zavarius Henry finished as the only other Wilson player in double-figures with 11. Lasharm Henry and Joshua Joyce both put up seven, and Jayleon Smith chipped in five. Joyce led the team in rebounds with seven.

Junior forward Nolan Smith finished with a game-high 19 points, 13 rebounds and five assists to lead HF-L. Senior point guard JT Killenbec added 15 points, seven assists and five rebounds. Carson Joint connected four times from behind the 3-point arc and accounted for 14 points. Ben Carson and Nate Weber added six points apiece while Sam Vogt had four points. Geneva’s Ethan Townsend hit six 3-pointers and led the Panthers with 18 points. Devin Thomas and Brian Whitley added 16 apiece. Immanuel Townsend had four points while Hector Rosado had three.

Devin Mulvey-Salerno led Waterloo to its first win of the season with a team-high 22 points. Jordan Kraft was the only other Indian in double-figures with 13. Nolan Slywka scored eight, Najib Brown had seven, Anthony Hartwell put up five, Quincey Trickler and Conner McCann both scored four, Casey Burcoff had three, and Garrett Mueller and Carson Hay-Snyder rounded out the scoring with two points each.

Max Brown, Ryan Curwin, and Rafael Ferguson combined for 52 of HAC’s 67 points as the Wolves picked up their first win of the season. Brown and Curwin shared the team-high with 19. Brown made five two-points field goals and hit two from beyond the arc while Curwin connected on five from downtown and made two two-point field goals. Ferguson scored 14 points with 12 of them coming in the third quarter. Sean Thody and Theo Colosimo both scored six points, and James Dorsey wrapped up the scoring with one three-ball.
Connor Franklin led a balanced Romulus team that featured four double-figure scorers. Franklin had 12, Mike Kaufman scored 11, and both Ben Jessop and Henry Morse contributed 10 points. Felix Fores added six points and Zach Butler scored five.

JC Walker dominated the paint with 21 rebounds to pace Lyons. Walker also put up a team-high 23 points to go along with seven steals and five blocks. Tony Pierre poured in 15 more points, Jay Battles had 14 points, and Jaden Lopez added 11 points to round out the double-digit scorers for Lyons. This marked the second time Lyons has scored over 90 in the early season, and the Lions have held its opponent to under 50 points in all of its first three games.
Matthew DeFisher and Troy Ingham led Williamson with 11 points and 10 points respectively. Matthew Jackson added eight, and Marshall Faniel recorded six points.

James Sidorshin knocked down the game-winning layup on an out-of-bounds lob pass passed by David Crandall. Finney picked up its first win behind Sidorshin’s team-high 16 points. Diego Bessette complimented Sidorshin with 13 of his own, and Connor O’Hare finished in double-figures with 10. Nick Pasquantonio scored nine, Josh Saurez had 5, Crandall scored four, and Ethan Krog finished the scoring for Finney with two free throws. Jami Walker led the charge for the Tigers scoring a game-high 28 points. Kyrell Shaw added 10, Anthony Granito and Shawn Jones contributed 6 points each.

Honeoye edged out Naples behind Charlie Farrell’s team-high 27 points. Owen Reynolds was the only other Honeoye player in double-digits with 12. Evan Cuba scored nine, Ethan Zuck had eight, Kyle DiBase scored four, and Owen Baader ended the Bulldog scoring with two.

Connor Tomion scored a game-high 21 points as Marcus Whitman won its first of the season. Tomion made six free-throws and six two-point field goals alongside one three. Nolan Lee complimented Tomion with 18 of his own and made three shots beyond the arc. Connor Gorton added eight points Bryce Tomion chipped in five, Brody Royston had four, and both Kyle Murphy and Holden Lescord-Fry scored two points.
Justin Skelly and Chris Coyle shared the team-high of 13 points for Livonia. Evan Swan had eight, Nicky Coyle and Jack Kearney both ended with six points, and Jake Watkins rounded out the Bulldog’s scoring with five points.

Lillian Mullen scored a game-high 24 points which paced Canisteo-Greenwood. Payton Peters scored five, Bailey Mullen and Brooke Burd both netted four points, and Kennedy Richardson ended the scoring with two points.

Kamryn Bonnell finished the Lyons scorers in double-figures with 12 points and added 11 steals. Cierra Harrison poured in seven, and Jenna Bott finished the scoring with four points.

Emily Gereizt recorded a double-double which led Attica to its third-straight win to begin the season. Gersitz had a team-high 18 points alongside 13 rebounds. Victoria Walker was the only other Blue Devil in double-figures with 14. Walker had four assists and four steals to her line. Chase Harding had seven points, seven assists, and five steals. Emily Gadd scored six, McKenna Phelps and Elise Dressel both added four, and Madalyn Robinson wrapped up the scoring with two. Robinson collected six boards.
