William Smith women’s soccer fell 1-0 in the NCAA Quarterfinals to unbeaten College of New Jersey on Sunday at a game played at the University of Scranton.
Nikki Butler’s strike from long distance in the 59th minute was the winner as the number one ranked Lions advanced to the Final Four in Greensboro, North Carolina.
The Herons pulled off a miraculous comeback in the semifinals on Saturday with a 5-4 victory over Misericordia in overtime. Trailing 4-2 with 23 minutes left, Julia Berg cut the lead to 4-3 and with 10 seconds left in regulation, Seneca Blakely-Armitage hit a shot that spun off the keeper’s hands, off the bottom of the crossbar and in, to force overtime.
With 3:15 left in the second extra period, Katrine Berg fired a shot from outside the box the deflected off a defender and in to send William Smith (19-2-1) to its third straight NCAA Quarterfinal.
