The Roberts Wesleyan College women’s soccer team continued its push toward the postseason with a 2-1 victory over St. Thomas Aquinas College on Saturday morning.
“I thought that we played a solid game and had great teamwork,” Roberts coach Sarah McClellan said.
Sophomore Abigail Sindoni netted the winner in the 81st minute as the Redhawks (6-7-1, 5-3-0 East Coast Conference) won their sixth straight match and solidified themselves in the fourth spot in the ECC standings with one game to play.
Sindoni, the reigning ECC Rookie of the Week, scored her team-best sixth goal of the season. All six have come during the current win streak.
“She’s got so many goals in her,” McClellan said. “She’s a dangerous threat and when you keep being active and working hard, good things happen. She’s a great player and she’s fun to watch.”
Roberts fell behind in the 24th minute, but responded quickly when StevieLyn Diggory converted an assist from Morgan Razzano for her second goal of the season.
Sophomore Nicolette Knauf made four saves to register her fifth win of the season.
The top four teams in the final regular-season standings make the ECC Tournament. Roberts is looking to qualify for the first time since 2016.
The Redhawks close out the regular season by hosting Lincoln in an ECC match on Senior Day at 1 p.m. Saturday.
