Section V Finals Preview: Boys’ Soccer Class D1

A team from Allegany County and another Steuben County will battle it out to decide the Class D1 title. Fillmore and Arkport/Canaseraga are set to face-off on Friday. Here is the breakdown:

No. 2 seed FILLMORE EAGLES (16-2-0/Allegany County Division I) vs. No. 5 seed ARKPORT/CANASERAGA (12-5-1/Steuben County Division II)

How they got here: Fillmore opened with a 3-0 win over No. 7 seed Mount Morris, and then defeated No. 3 Wheatland-Chili 2-1. Arkport/Canaseraga defeated No. 4 seed Avoca/Prattsburg, 3-2, and took down top-seeded Naples 2-1.

Total goals scored: Fillmore (82), Arkport/Canaseraga (38)

Total goals allowed: Fillmore (16), Arkport/Canaseraga (16)

Last time they met: Arkport/Canaseraga defeated Fillmore 1-0 in its only matchup of the year.

Trends: Fillmore has won 14 consecutive matches with five shutouts in that span. Arkport/Canaseraga has won four of its last five games, outscoring its opponents, 11-6, in that span.

Players to Watch for Fillmore: Graham Cahill Sr. SW six goals, one assist; Nooradeen Muzaid-Omar Sr. A three goals allowed, 15 assists; Carter Sisson Sr. A seven goals, 12 assists; Mitchell Ward Jr. A 30 goals, eight assists.

Arkport/Canaseraga: Joe Bauch Sr. MF six goals, four assists; Riley Shinebarger Sr. D six goals, five assists; Nate Morey Jr. MF six goals, four assists; Ethan Reynolds Jr. MF five goals, seven assists.

Coaches: Jamie Mullen (Fillmore), Dale Steiner (Arkport/Canaseraga)

History 101: Fillmore has reached its third-straight sectional title game and is looking for its second championship in the past decade. Fillmore won in 2019 against Avoca/Prattsburgh, but lost to Keshequa in 2020. Fillmore also lost in 2012 to Jasper-Troupsburg.

Arkport/Canaseraga has not reached or won a sectional title. Arkport on its own made it to the 2011 sectional championship game.

A 8 p.m. kickoff is scheduled on Friday at SUNY Geneseo.
