Thursday’s ICBL Wrap: Monarchs win sixth straight to finish regular season

The Monarchs grabbed their sixth-straight victory to end the regular season behind Josh Battaglia’s (D’Youville) game-high three RBI. Battaglia broke a 3-3 tie in the sixth inning with a two-run double which highlighted a four-run sixth frame. Jacob Parker plated one more with a single and Battaglia came around to score on an error to cap off the stanza. The Monarchs added three more in the seventh on a Frank Fernandes single and a Nate Sanderson (Hilbert) two-run double.

Jagger Nucci (St. Bonaventure) got the start on the mound and hurled the first three innings. Nucci allowed three runs (two earned) on seven hits and one walk while striking out two. Quin Ignaszak (Finger Lakes CC) earned the win in relief following two shutout innings. The right-hander struck out three and gave up one hit. Cliff Genge (Niagara County CC) finished the game retiring all six batters faced; Genge struck out three. Sanderson finished the game 3-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored, Battaglia collected one hit and a run scored in three at-bats, Jourdan Plaisted (Elmira) added two hits and two runs scored, and Fernandes scored three times. Jacob Carroll, Lucas Sulimowicz (Finger Lakes CC), and Walker Wright (RIT) all chipped in a base-knock.The Monarchs clinched second place heading into the playoffs which begin Sunday.

The Cardinals scored all three of their runs in the first inning on a Dan Tirabassi (University of Rochester) RBI double, a Jack Scanlon RBI single, and a Greyson McDonell RBI single. Tirabassi ended 1-for-3 and Jake Dockum (Westminster College) went 2-for-2 with a walk and a run scored. Lucas Jackson (Onondaga CC), Bobby Sellers (Alfred State), and Zach Morse (Alfred State) collected one hit apiece.
