Brockport sweeps Fredonia

The SUNY Brockport baseball team took two games from visiting Fredonia Thursday afternoon at the Clark V. Whited Complex. The Golden Eagles won game one 19-5 and completed the sweep by earning a 13-4 game two victory.  The Golden Eagles, who have clinched a spot in the upcoming SUNYAC Conference Tournament, will host Oneonta for the regular season finale on Saturday (1 p.m. start).

Brockport, ranked No. 2 in the first release of the NCAA Division III Baseball New York Region Rankings, has improved its record to 16-5 overall on the season.  The Golden Eagles went 8-0 against Fredonia this year.  They are now 10-1 at home and hold a 10-4 conference record, good for second place in the SUNYAC West behind Oswego.

Ryan Mansell finished the day going 2-for-6 with five RBI’s and two runs scored, while Ryan Voight went 2-for-8 with five RBI’s and two runs scored.  Tom Kretzler went 2-for-7 with three runs scored and two RBI’s.

Brockport 19, Fredonia 5 – Game One Final

The Golden Eagles rode the highs of a nine run fifth inning and eventually led 19-0 by the end of the eighth inning to earn the convincing game one victory.

Voight sparked the nine run fifth inning with a bases clearing double to give Brockport a commanding 13-0 lead midway through the contest. He finished game one going 2-for-4 with four RBI’s and two runs scored.  10 different Golden Eagles posted at least one RBI in the game one victory.

James Houlahan went 1-for-3 with two RBI’s and one run scored, while Mansell went 1-for-3 with two RBI’s and one run scored.  Ryan Mroczka came on as a pinch hitter in the late innings and finished game one going 1-for-2 with two RBI’s, while second baseman Daniel DelGaizo went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and one RBI in the victory.

Kobie Punchard had another excellent outing on the mound for Brockport as he went 6.0 strong innings and struck out six while allowing just three hits and zero runs.  Brandon Greenspan struck out one and closed out the final 3.0 innings on the mound for the Golden Eagles.

Brockport 13, Fredonia 4 – Game Two Final

Brockport scored seven runs in the bottom of the first and added six more over the course of its final two at-bats as the Golden Eagles earned a convincing game two win over the visiting Blue Devils.

Mansell finished game two going 1-for-3 with three RBI’s and one run scored, while Skyler Ohrvall went 3-for-4 with four RBI’s and two runs scored in game two.  Kretzler also went 1-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored in the nine run game two victory.  Chris Martin posted his first collegiate double and also scored a run for Brockport.

Kyle Canavally got the start on the mound in game two and went 4.1 innings, striking out three batters. Canavally allowed just three hits and two runs in the victory.

Fredonia transfer Nicholas Lawlor came on in relief of Canavally and struck out four in 1.2 innings of work. He allowed just one hit and zero earned runs.  Colin Pytlak closed the door on the mound for Brockport as he struck out one.
