It is hard to script a perfect start, but the LeRoy Knights couldn’t have been happier with their start Tuesday night. On the first play from scrimmage, senior Cody Lytle picked off Austin Williams and brought it back to the Warsaw/Letchworth 14-yard line.
Running back, Nate Andrews brought the Knights down to the one-yard line, and fullback Jack Tonzi punched it in to give LeRoy a 7-0 lead just after two minutes of play.
Following a quick three-and-out from Warsaw/Letchworth, the Knights went 75-yards in seven plays to take an early 14-0 lead. Alex Panepento capped the possession with a five-yard touchdown run.
The Knights never looked back from their hot start, as they moved to 5-0 following its 35-7 victory over the defending Class C Sectional Champions.
Warsaw/Letchworth stuck around early as quarterback Austin Williams found Aaron Miller for a 23-yard touchdown pass with 1:02 left in the first quarter. Williams completed a 59-yard pass to Eddie Stores, which set up the touchdown.
Warsaw/Letchworth forced a three-and-out the next possession but gave it right back with a fumble. The Knights started at the Warsaw/Letchworth 44-yard line and found the end zone on a two-yard touchdown pass from Panepento to Adam Wiserick, which finished off a 10 play drive.
LeRoy started the second half with the ball leading 21-7. The Knights put the game away with an 11-play touchdown drive that took up the first six minutes and 36 seconds of the half. Panepento reached pay dirt on a one-yard quarterback sneak.
Panepento reached the end zone one final time on a six-yard run with 6:34 remaining in the fourth quarter. Panepento connected with Wiserick on a 32-yard pass which set up LeRoy in the red zone.
Panepento ended the game, completing 9-of-13 passes for 108 yards and a touchdown alongside 15 carries for 74 yards and three touchdowns. Andrews racked up a game-high 94 rushing yards on 19 carries. Wiserick finished with a team-high five catches and 55 yards, and Lytle had three catches for 35 yards.
For Warsaw/Letchworth, Williams paced the offense with 138 passing yards while completing 8-of-15 passes. Stores caught two passes for 73 yards, and Miller hauled in three passes for 49 yards.
Warsaw/Letchworth defeated LeRoy 26-6 in the 2019 Class C sectional final.
LeRoy (5-0) will square off against Livonia (5-0) next Monday at 7 p.m. Warsaw/Letchworth (1-4) will travel to take on Wayland-Cohocton (1-2) next Monday at 7 p.m.
