ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Senior Caleigh Cahoon netted a pair of first-half goals for host Nazareth Saturday as the Golden Flyers went on to take a 3-0 women’s soccer victory over Russell Sage in Empire 8 Conference action at Golden Flyer Stadium.

Off to a flying start in their makeshift season, the Golden Flyers extended their record to 5-0 overall, including 4-0 in Empire 8 Conference games. The Golden Flyers recorded their fourth shutout and have outscored their five opponents 24-1. The Gators lost for the first time and dropped to 2-1 both overall and in the E8.

Both of Cahoon’s goals came off headers. The first came in the 10th minute as she finished a cross from the foot of freshman Shayla Scully. The second goal was her team-leading sixth of the season and came off a corner kick from senior Lena D’Amico, who served the ball to the far post, where Cahoon was planted.

The Golden Flyers continued to control the action in the second half and scored again in the 82nd minute when Alexandra Skoda scored her fourth goal of the season. Defender Lauren Begy cleared the ball out of the Nazareth defensive end and Ashley Plane was able to send a pass up the left wing toward Skoda. In a footrace with Russell Sage keeper Mickaela Buzzy, Skoda won out and was able to land a left-footed shot that caromed off the far post and into the goal.

Nazareth had a 26-8 edge in shots and junior Gabrielle Pighetti was called upon to make just two saves to gain her third complete shutout of the season. Buzzy recorded 10 saves for the Gators.

Nazareth plays again Tuesday at St. John Fisher at 7 p.m.
