South Seneca and Batavia-Notre Dame to decide Girls’ Class D1 title

South Seneca looks to complete a perfect season in its first year in Class D1, and Batavia-Notre Dame is trying to avenge its semifinal loss to Fillmore last year. Here’s the breakdown:

No. 1 seed SOUTH SENECA FALCONS (13-0/Finger Lakes West) vs. No. 3 seed BATAVIA-NOTRE DAME FIGHTING IRISH (11-2/Genesee Region II)

Scoring offense: South Seneca (51.5 PPG), Batavia-Notre Dame (48.2 PPG)

Scoring defense: South Seneca (25.2 PPG), Batavia-Notre Dame (37.5 PPG)

Current streak: South Seneca has won 13 straight. Batavia-Notre Dame has won 11-of-12.

How they got here: South Seneca defeated No. 8 Jasper-Troupsburg, 58-21, in the quarterfinals before downing fourth-seeded Fillmore, 45-35, in the semis.

Batavia-Notre Dame defeated Alfred-Almond by a 52-24 score in the quarterfinals and took down No. 3 C. G. Finney, 67-50, in the semis.

Last time they met: South Seneca and Batavia-Notre Dame have not met this season.

Players to Watch for South Seneca: Emma Fletcher Jr. G 15.7 PPG; Logan Shaulis Sr. G 10.5 PPG; Alissa Fletcher Jr. G 8.9 PPG and Alissa Kenyon Jr. G 5.5 PPG.

Batavia-Notre Dame: Amelia McCulley So. G 22.5 PPG; Sarah McGinnis Sr. G 7.3 PPG and Lindsey Weidman Jr. C 6.6 PPG, and 8.2 RPG.

Coaches: Charity Couch (South Seneca), Tom McCulley (Batavia-Notre Dame)

History 101: South Seneca finished 7-13 last season and lost in Round One of  Class C2 sectionals. The Falcons lost to Wheatland-Chili 50-32. Batavia-Notre Dame lost in the Class D1 semifinals last season to Fillmore 55-49. The Fighting Irish entered as a five-seed and won its first two sectionals games last season.

A 7 p.m. tip off is scheduled at South Seneca High School.
