The first two periods were action-packed between bitter rivals Victor and Penfield hockey but after an uneventful final period it was the Blue Devils coming away with the 4-1 win at the Rochester Ice Center Monday afternoon.
Victor started aggressive early with a chance just a minute into the game and just kept the attack on until they finished one in the back of the net. The Blue Devils first goal came from Colin McNamara on a power play during a scrum in front of the net with 8:15 left in the first.
Penfield then had two power plays in the first period but couldn’t capitalize. Victor then scored right out of the gate in the second, Alex Parton got the unassisted goal to make it 2-0.
Penfield scored just two minutes later after Chris Smith finished on a nice cross-ice pass. The second period didn’t end there though as Victor got two consecutive power plays and was able to finally take advantage of one with Tanner Radogna putting the Blue Devils ahead 3-1 on a similar play to Penfield’s goal.
The final period was mostly back and forth with not many shots on goal but with about three minutes left Penfield pulled the goalie only for Victor’s Asher Erwin to shoot from the other side of the rink right as Penfield’s Dom Andrade got into the bench.
This was Penfield’s first loss of the season putting it at 3-1 and Victor also moved to 3-1 with the win.
Both teams play again Thursday with Penfield facing off against Pittsford and Victor taking on Churchville-Chili.
