Section V Boys’ Basketball tips off the 2021 season on February 8th. Here are the season previews for Fairport, Gates-Chili, Hilton, Rush-Henrietta, Victor and Webster Schroeder:
FAIRPORT RED RAIDERS (Class AA)
Last season: Finished 11-11 and lost to Victor in the Class AA quarter-finals.
Coach: Scott Fitch (21st season, 316-101 career record)
Top returners: Jack McDonald (Sr. Guard/Forward 7.0 ppg/4.0 rebounds), Derek Howe (Sr. G), Andrew Smith (Sr. F), Matt Terzo (Sr. F) and Bruce Wilder (Jr. G).
Top newcomers: Braden Consaul (Jr. F),Billy Meagher (Jr. G), Alex Hill (Jr. G),Tyler Pucci (Jr. G),Josh Knapp (Jr. F), Jake Koonmen (Jr.),Cody Bilyo (Jr. F),Ian Kennedy (Jr. F),Garrett Kucera (Jr. G),Mitch Parker (Jr. G),James Stanek (Jr. G) and Wallace Rahmaan (So. G).
First game: Host Victor February 9th.
Outlook: Fairport will be retooling with a lineup heavy on juniors. Can the Red Raiders make another run at the divisional title?
GATES-CHILI SPARTANS (Class AA)
Last season record and finish: 10-11, lost in Class AA quarterfinals to UPrep
Coach: Jeffrey LaFave (Second season, 10-11 career record)
Top returners: Spencer Glenn Sr. SF; Kobe McCray Sr. SG; Adam Williams Sr. SF (149 points away from 1,000 career points)
Top newcomers: Andrew Newcomb Sr. PF/C (Northstar Christian transfer)
Outlook: “Gates-Chili is returning a cast of 12 seniors to anchor this year’s squad. This is a veteran team that is looking to rebound from last season where the team hovered around .500 after recovering from a 1-5 start. This team has solid leadership anchored by Andrew Newcomb, Spencer Glenn and Kobe McCray. Adam Williams is looking to notch his 1,000th career point and is the team’s most explosive scorer. Devon Payton will provide a much needed scoring punch coming off the bench. Quincey Davis will look to be the team’s defensive stopper. Blake Sipplin will look to make his mark as the team’s utility man.”
First game: February 9th vs. Webster Schroeder at 7:45 p.m.
HILTON CADETS (Class AA)
Last season record and finish: 12-9, lost in Class AA first round to Edison Tech.
Coach: Troy Prince (17th season, 174-155 career record)
Top returners: Preston Prince (6-foot-3 Jr. Guard); Nick Graziano (5-foot-11 Sr. Guard); Greyson Trubia (6-foot-6 So. Forward)
Top newcomers: Carter Clark (6-foot-5 Jr. F/C); Michael Whelehan (5-foot-10 So. Guard)
Outlook: “Hilton returns only one starter and lost 95 percent of its scoring from a year ago. The Cadets have some nice pieces coming up, good chemistry, and Trubia will be a college player down the road who will provide some rebounding and a post play.”
First Game: February 9th at Rush Henrietta at 7:45 p.m.
RUSH-HENRIETTA ROYAL COMETS (Class AA)
Last season: Finished: 16-7, lost in Class AA semi-finals to UPrep.
Coach: Chris Reed (21st season, 406-207 career record)
Top returners: Mason Giorgione (5-foot-7 Jr. Point Guard, 6ppg/3.0 assists); Chris Sleeper (6-foot-2 Sr. Forward, 6ppg/5 rebounds); Jalen House (6-foot-1 Sr. G/F, 5ppg); Gabe Wright (6-foot-2 Sr. Forward); CJ Thomas (6-foot-2 Sr. G/F); Nasir Hunter (5-foot-9 Jr. G)
Top newcomers: Toby Wright (6-foot Jr. G); Jamarie Johnson (6-foot-3 240 lbs So. Forward); Abdual Bori (6-foot-4 Jr. G/F); Sam Bowden (6-foot-5 250 lbs Sr. Forward)
Outlook: “Solid group with a very demanding schedule. Two games against Victor, Gates, Fairport, Webster Schroder and Hilton. Non-league games are UPrep and Edison. Team plays very well together and has good chemistry. Team was undefeated as JVs but many of the best players in the league were on the varsity at the time.”

VICTOR BLUE DEVILS (Class AA)
Last season record and finish: 20-2, lost in Class AA semi-finals to McQuaid.
Coach: Tyler Roberts (66 career wins)
Top returners: CJ James (Sr. Forward, 11.3 ppg/7.3 rpg/2.9 apg); Connor Williams (Sr. Center, 12.7 ppg/8 rpg); Chase Dickens (Sr. Guard, 9.5 ppg/3.5 apg); Will Tehan (Sr. Guard, 5 ppg/2.5 rpg/2.1 apg/1.7 spg); Phil Nwugwo (Jr. Forward, 6.5 ppg/5.5 rpg)
Top newcomers: Owen Stone (6’2 Jr. Guard); Jonah Whittier (5’10 Jr. Guard); Rohan Chitre (6’1 Jr. Guard)
Outlook: Coming up short in sectionals after a very good regular season, Victor returns a lot of key pieces in hopes to get to the Section V title game.

WEBSTER SCHROEDER WARRIORS (Class AA)
Last season record and finish: 6-15, lost in first round of sectionals to McQuaid.
Coach: Rashaad Stokelin (6-15 career record)
Top returners: Luke Insley (Sr. Guard, Pursuing Nazareth College, could be Webster Schroeder’s first 1,000 point scorer); James Knox (Sr. Guard); Ky’Mere Meeks (Sr. C/F)
Top newcomers: Tyler Race (Jr. Guard); Matthew Salina (Jr. Guard)
