BETHLEHEM, Pa. – American senior guard Jamir Harris claimed his first Patriot League GEICO Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, and Army West Point freshman guard Jalen Rucker received rookie of the week honors when the League office announced weekly accolades on Tuesday.
Harris collected GEICO Men’s Basketball Player of the Week honors after averaging 28.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists while shooting 61 percent (17-for-28) from the floor and 57 percent (13-for-23) from 3-point range to lead American to a weekend sweep over Loyola Maryland. He scored a career-high 33 points, including a game-winning buzzer-beater in Sunday’s 81-79 triple-overtime win over the Greyhounds.
Rucker picked up his first GEICO Men’s Basketball Rookie of the Week award by averaging 14.5 points, 2.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists to help Army West Point split a two-game weekend series against Navy. He scored a career-high 18 points on 5-of-10 shooting while dishing out four assists to lead the Black Knights to a win over the Mids on Sunday.
Army West Point senior guard Lonnie Grayson, Boston University senior forward Sukhmail Mathon, Holy Cross junior forward Gerrale Gates, Lehigh sophomore guard Evan Taylor, Loyola Maryland sophomore forward Santi Aldama and Navy junior guard Greg Summers all received an honorable mention for their performances during the weekend of League games.
The Patriot League men’s basketball players of the week are selected in a vote by League media members and each school’s sports information director, who are not eligible to vote for their student-athletes.
