BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Bucknell senior forward John Meeks captured his first Patriot League GEICO Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, and American freshman forward Johnny O’Neil received rookie of the week honors when the League office announced weekly accolades on Tuesday.
Meeks collected GEICO Men’s Basketball Player of the Week honors after averaging 21.5 points and 7.5 rebounds in Bucknell’s two-game, weekend sweep against Central Division opponent Lehigh. The senior forward posted career-highs of 31 points and 11 rebounds in Sunday’s 77-61 win.
O’Neil received his first GEICO Men’s Basketball Rookie of the Week award by averaging 15.5 points and 7.5 rebounds while shooting 44 percent (7-for-16) from 3-point range in the Eagles’ first two games of the season at Navy. The Miami Shores, Fla. native scored six of his 14 points in an overtime loss to Navy in his collegiate debut.
American senior guard Stacy Beckton Jr., Colgate senior guard Jack Ferguson, Holy Cross senior forward Matt Faw, Lafayette senior guard Justin Jaworski and Loyola Maryland senior guard Brandon Bradsher received an honorable mention for their performances during the third week of the League schedule.
