Semifinal Preview: Class D2 Girls’ Soccer

Top seeds in Girls’ Class D2 held chalk. Both matchups will be the first time the respective teams play each other this year. The top seeds will host their games on Tuesday at 6 P.M. Here’s the breakdown:

No. 1 seed BELFAST BULLDOGS (9-3-0/Allegany County Division II) vs. No. 4 seed JASPER-TROUPSBURG WILDCATS (5-4-1/Steuben County Division I)

How they got here: Belfast opened sectional play with a 6-nil win over eight-seeded Lima Christian in the quarterfinals. Jasper-Troupsburg beat fifth-seeded Northstar Academy, 4-1.

Total goals scored: Belfast (32), Jasper-Troupsburg (24)

Total goals allowed: Belfast (16), Jasper-Troupsburg (26)

Trends: Belfast has won three straight games. Jasper-Troupsburg has won five out of the last seven, including one tie.

No. 2 seed ANDOVER/WHITESVILLE PANTHERS (8-4-0/Allegany County Division II) vs. No. 3 seed BATAVIA NOTRE DAME FIGHTING IRISH (6-6-2/Genesee County Division II)

How they got here: Andover/Whitesville shut out No. 7 seed Friendship, 4-0 in the quarterfinals. Batavia Notre Dame knocked off No. 6 seed Avoca/Prattsburgh 3-0.

Total goals scored: Andover/Whitesville (43), Batavia Notre Dame (24)

Total goals allowed: Andover/Whitesville (12), Batavia Notre Dame (21)

Last time they met: Andover/Whitesville and Batavia Notre Dame have not matched up this season.

Trends: Andover/Whitesville won in the quarterfinals ending a two-game losing skid. Batavia Notre Dame’s win in the quarterfinals snapped a three-game losing streak where they did not score a goal.
