Monarchs extra hitter Christian Montanez (RWU) slugged two homers and and collected six RBI as the Monarchs won their fourth straight game. Montanez finished two-for-three and scored twice in the first game of the doubleheader. The 6-foot-6 Montanez gave the Monarchs all the runs needed in the first inning with a two-run home run that scored Ray Specht (Niagara County CC). One inning later, Montanez worked a bases-loaded walk as part of a three-run frame, and the Monarchs did not look back. Starter John Gassler (NYU) held the Flyin Fish to just two hits across four innings and fanned 11 batters to pick up his first win of the season. Montanez connected on a solo home run in the fourth and drove in two more runs with a fifth-inning single. Will Carlone (VCU) and Andrew Sanchez (Mercyhurst) collected an RBI apiece in the second. Bobby Sellers capitalized on a passed ball in the fifth inning to give the Monarchs their ninth run, and Specht brought in a run with a bases-loaded RBI. The Flyin Fish’s only offensive threat came late in the final inning as Tyler Griggs (Central Arizona) walked to load the bases with two outs. Closer Marty Williams (St. John Fisher) struck out the next man to close the inning.

Dylan MacKenzie (Cortland) homered and drove in three runs as the Flyin Fish rebounded for the doubleheader split. MacKenzie finished 2-for-3 in the game with a two-run home run, his second round tripper of the season. Lefty Patrick Xander started and fanned five over five innings to pick up the win. Xander allowed one run on five hits and two walks. Ryan Demitrovic closed for the Flyin Fish, striking out one batter over two innings of work and allowing one hit. Tyler Griggs (Central Arizona) tripled. Nate Sanderson (Hilbert) and Trevor Robinson (Tompkins Cortland CC) both doubled. Sanderson collected an RBI. Sam Werth (Alfred State) also recorded a hit for the Fish. Ray Specht (NCCC) drove in Nick Serce (Alfred State) with the lone Monarchs’ run. Serce slugged two doubles. Lucas Sulimowicz (Finger Lakes CC) also doubled for the Monarchs.
