Daniel Wersinger anchored the lineup of a Newark squad which tallied 14 victories and finished as the No. 3 seed in Class B1. The 5-foot-8 senior swatted 19 hits in 56 at-bats (.339 batting average) in 2019, including four doubles.
Wersinger was second on the team in batting average. He ranked third in slugging percentage (.410), tied for third in hits and fifth in both on-base percentage (.464) and plate appearances (69). Wersinger drew 12 walks, scored 12 runs, stole eight bases and collected six RBI as well.
On the mound, Wersinger fanned six of the 21 batters he faced in four appearances. Defensively, the 5-foot-8 senior only committed three errors in 39 total chances (.923 fielding percentage). Wersinger had one assist and 35 put outs as well.
Wersinger’s best game of the season was on April 8th at Mynderse. In the 11-7 victory, he collected two hits in three at-bats, drove in a run and crossed the plate once.
Newark’s 14 wins included victories over Palmyra-Macedon, sectional runner-up Geneva and two wins over sectional semifinalist Waterloo.
