Brockport freshman Ava Velletri contributed to a Blue Devils team which opened the season with six consecutive victories and advanced to the Class A sectional quarterfinals as the No. 5 seed. The 5-foot-6 guard averaged 5.9 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 0.6 steals as the squad’s lone ninth grader.
Velletri shot 74 percent (17-for-23) from the charity stripe and 34 percent (14-for-41) from behind the arc in 22 games played. The freshman guard scored double figures five times, including season-highs of 15 points and four long-range shots in the sectional quarterfinals against Canandaigua.

Velletri’s four other double-digit scoring performances were against Eastridge twice (13 points and four assists on December 6th and 11 points, eight boards and four dimes on January 31st), 10 points on December 14th against Webster Thomas and 12 points on February 12th at Greece Arcadia.
Velletri contributed in other ways, including a 0.6875 assist-to-turnover ratio. The 5-foot-6 guard dished out a season-high four assists three times (twice against Eastridge and February 14th against Pittford Mendon). In the matchup with Mendon, Velletri tied a career high with eight rebounds as well. Additionally, the freshman guard swiped three steals on December 10th in a 71-61 win at Honeoye Falls-Lima.
Velletri will play AAU for the WNY Lady Lakers. With the graduation of Erynn Hogan and Emma Stroup, Velletri will be in a more prominent role next season with Gisela Allen, leading scorer Ella Fadale, Emma Laureano, Emma Sodoma and Emily Vergari.
