Marcus Whitman made school history this past season winning the class C1 sectional title. It was the first sectional title for the school since 1976. The Wildcats had plenty of contributors but none more significant than 5-foot-10-inch junior Ryan Herod.
Herod had his biggest performance of the season in the sectional title game against Red Jacket, which entered the title game with a 21-1 record. In the final game of the season, Herod had his season-high 18 points, hitting three 3-pointers. The junior also added four rebounds in that game to help Marcus Whitman capture the title.
Herod averaged 6.0 points, three rebounds, two assists, and one steal per game. The guard shot 32 percent (55-of-172) from the field, 30 percent (30-of-102) from behind the arc, and 26 percent (5-19) from the charity stripe.
Outside of the big performance against Red Jacket, Herod had his best game on December 20th in a win vs. Early College. The junior collected 17 points with the help of hitting five 3-point shots and three steals. The impact was felt early as he jumpstarted his team by scoring 14 of his 17 points in the first quarter.
Herod was one of four junior who averaged double-digit minutes for the Wildcats this past season. He has played AAU for Central Western. He is looking to play lacrosse in college.
