East High junior Shariona Blocker led her team in points, assists and blocked shots en route to the Eagles 12-11 record and a spot in the Section V Class A semifinals. Blocker averaged 18.1 points, 6.4 rebounds, 5.1 assists, 2.9 steals and 0.8 blocks without missing a game.
The 5-foot-10 forward scored her 18.1 points per game (416 total) on 45 percent (165-for-368) shooting. She topped double figures in 22 of East’s 23 games.
While leading East in assists (up from last season’s 3.6), Blocker also finished third on the squad in rebounds (an improvement from 3.9 a year ago) and ranked second in steals per game. The junior forward also finished with a team-high 19 blocks.
In East’s season-opening win over Aquinas, Blocker scored 26 points, grabbed eight rebounds and blocked four shots. She posted her season-high of 29 points against Greece Arcadia. She also had 10 rebounds, eight assists and four steals in the contest. Blocker notched a double-double against Edison Tech during the regular season with 17 points and 10 assists.
