Section V Semifinals Preview: Boys’ Basketball Class D1

Section V Class D1 heads to Mount Morris High School for the semi-finals. The top three seeds all remain, with the five seed joining them. Here is the breakdown:

No. 1 AVOCA (19-1/Steuben County) vs. No. 5 Honeoye (14-6/Finger Lakes West) 6:30 PM, Monday, Mount Morris HS. 

Scoring offense: Avoca (74.2 PPG), Honeoye (55.05 PPG)

Scoring defense: Avoca (42.2 PPG), Honeoye (48.9 PPG)

Current streak: Avoca has won 20 straight, Honeoye has won four in a row.

How they got here: Avoca opened up beating Mount Morris 103-57, behind Brady Brandow and Devin Stowe scoring 21 points each. 

Honeoye opened up against Kendall winning 72-61, Honeoye followed up beating the fourth seed Fillmore 55-39. 

Last time they met: Avoca beat Honeoye 69-40 when the two teams met in early January.

What’s at stake: A spot in the Section V Class D1 finals against the Genesee Valley/Batavia-Notre Dame winner. 

No. 2 Genesee Valley (16-4/Allegany County Division I) vs. No. 3 Batavia-Notre Dame (16-4/Genesee Region Division II) 8:15 PM, Monday, Mount Morris HS. 

Scoring offense: Genesee Valley (71.15 PPG), Batavia-Notre Dame (72.25 PPG)

Scoring defense: Genesee Valley (57.2 PPG), Batavia-Notre Dame (58.3 PPG)

Current streak: Genesee Valley has won five straight, Batavia-Notre Dame has won five straight.

How they got here: Genesee Valley beat Eugenio Maria 77-68 in the Quarter-Finals.  

Batavia-Notre Dame opened up winning against Jasper-Troupsburg 71-58 to begin their sectional run.  

Last time they met: These two schools have not played this season.
