Section V Semifinals Preview: Boys’ Basketball Class C2

The Section V Class C2 tournament moves on to its semifinal stages. With the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds gone, there are a few unexpected teams two wins from a sectional title. Here’s the breakdown:

No. 1 LYONS (19-2/Wayne County) vs. No. 5 GENESEO (14-7/Livingston County Division 2) 6:30 PM Monday
Scoring offense: Lyons (71.45 PPG), Geneseo (65.25 PPG)
Scoring defense: Lyons (51.20 PPG), Geneseo (59.90 PPG)
Current streak: Lyons has won 11 of its past 12 games. Geneseo has taken four of its last six.
How they got here: Lyons defeated Pembroke 73-46 in the quarterfinals. Geneseo knocked off Letchworth 71-56 in the quarterfinals.
Last time they met: Geneseo defeated Lyons 59-58 in the Class C2 semifinals in 2017.


Players to watch for Lyons: Benji Kemp 6-foot-2-inch Jr. C; Horace Betts IV 6-foot-1-inch Soph. G; Ahmir James 5-foot-6-inch Soph. G
Geneseo: Owen Lyons 5-foot-10-inch Sr. G; Adam Wright 6-foot-3-inch Jr. G; Noah Reilly 6-foot-5-inch Sr. C; Daniel Kelly 6-foot-3-inch Sr. F
Coaches: Dean Schott II (Lyons) and Brian Paganin (Geneseo)
What’s at stake: 
A spot in the Class C2 finals against either Perry or Alexander.

No. 2 PERRY (16-5/Livingston County Division 2) vs. No. 6 ALEXANDER (13-9/Genesee Region Division 1) 8:15 PM
Scoring offense: Perry (56.85 PPG), Alexander (56.00 PPG)
Scoring defense: Perry (49.75 PPG), Alexander (53.95 PPG)
Current streak: Perry has won 11 games in a row. Alexander has won eight straight contests.
How they got here: Perry defeated Cuba-Rushford 59-45 in the quarterfinals. Alexander beat Campbell-Savona 63-56 in the first round, then toppled Clyde-Savannah 54-49 in the quarterfinals.


Last time they met: Perry defeated Alexander on December 19 at Attica HS 61-56.
