Section V Semifinals Preview: Boys’ Basketball Class B2

Section V Class B2 will head to Bloomfield and Canisteo-Greenwood for its semi-finals. The two-seed was eliminated, but the No. 1, No. 3 and No. 4 seeds remain. Here is the breakdown:

No. 1 AVON (15-6/Livingston County II) vs. No. 4 PENN YAN (10-11/Finger Lakes East) 7 PM, Wednesday, Bloomfield HS

Scoring offense: Avon (63.45), Penn Yan (50.80)

Scoring defense: Avon (51.50), Penn Yan (54.85)

Current streak: Avon has won two of four, Penn Yan has won two straight.

How they got here: Nick Rowland notched a double-double with 25 points and 12 boards as Avon defeated No. 9 Attica 79-39 in the quarterfinals.

Penn Yan won a close game against No. 5 Bath-Haverling 57-54 in the quarterfinals.

Last time they met: Have not met this season

Players to watch: Avon — Zach Colvin So. F; Nick Rowland Sr. F; Tyler Dailey Sr. G; Andrew Rowland 8th grade G.

What’s at stake: A spot in the Section V Class B2 final against the Wellsville/Wayland-Cohocton winner.

No. 3 WELLSVILLE (11-10/Independt) vs. No. 7 WAYLAND-COHOCTON (10-11/Livingston County II) 7 PM, Wednesday, Canisteo-Greenwood ES

Scoring offense: Wellsville (50.50), Wayland-Cohocton (60.15)

Scoring defense: Wellsville (50.80), Wayland-Cohocton (61.80)

Current streak: Wellsville has won one of four, Wayland-Cohocton has won two of four.

How they got here: Liam McKinley scored a game-high 23 points as Wellsville defeated No. 6 Mynderse 66-39 in the quarterfinals.

Wayland-Cohocton knocked off No. 2 LeRoy 81-78 in the quarterfinals.
