Section V Semifinals Preview: Boys’ Basketball Class B1

The Hornell Red Raiders knocked off two-time defending Class B champion Greece Odyssey.

Section V Class B1 will head to Pittsford Sutherland for its final four. The two and four seeds were eliminated, but the top seed remains. Here is the breakdown:

No. 1 GENEVA (17-4/Finger Lakes East) vs. No. 5 HORNELL (16-5/Livingston County I) 6:30 PM, Tuesday, Pittsford Sutherland

Scoring offense: Geneva (63.80), Hornell (58.25)

Scoring defense: Geneva (50.10), Hornell (48.50)

Current streak: Geneva has won three straight, Hornell has won two in a row.

How they got here: Geneva defeated the No. 8 Palmyra-Macedon, 61-56, in the quarterfinals.

With time running down, Jackson White buried the game-winning three to lift Hornell over No. 4 Greece Odyssey, 53-50, in the quarterfinals.

Last time they met: Devon Martin had 17 points to lead Geneva over Hornell 62-47 when the two teams met in late January.

Players to watch: Geneva — Devon Martin 6-foot-3-inch Jr. F; Parker Bossard 6-foot-2-inch Sr. G; Jagger Kerr 6-foot Sr. F; Liam Ryan 5-foot-9-inch Sr. G.

What’s at stake: A spot in the Section V Class B1 finals against the Waterloo/Newark winner.

No. 3 WATERLOO (16-5/Finger Lakes East) vs. No. 7 NEWARK (11-10/Finger Lakes East) 8:15 PM, Tuesday, Pittsford Sutherland

Scoring offense: Waterloo (57.58), Newark (55.40)

Scoring defense: Waterloo (50.16), Newark (54.30)

Current streak: Waterloo has won two straight, Newark has won two of four

How they got here: Waterloo rolled past No. 11 Greece Olympia 73-48 in the quarterfinals.

Josh Green led Newark with 16 points to upset No. 2 Batavia 63-58 in the quarterfinals.

Last time they met: Julian Ruiz had 25 points as Waterloo defeated Newark 56-49 when the two teams met in mid-January.
