Tuesday Hockey Wrap: Hennessy scores late game winner for Thomas; McWilliams records hat trick, two assists in Canandaigua win

Cullen Hennessy scored the game-winning goal with four minutes left in the final period as Webster Thomas came from behind to earn a spot in sectional finals. Hennessy (3), Spencer (2), and Wolfe (2) combined for six points. Cade Spencer and Zack Wolfe assisted on Hennessy’s go-ahead goal. Spencer tallied the first goal of the game 2:55 into the first, connecting with Hennesy and Wolfe on a power play. Churchville-Chili’s Dylan Clark answered with under a minute left in the first period, assisted by Mitchell Marsh and Luke Molnar. Michael Latone connected with Julius Horvath halfway through the second period to put Churchville-Chili up by a goal, but Webster Thomas effectively utilized another power play as Kyle Vent scored the tying goal 8:00 into the second with help from Liam Forsyth and Hennessy. Hennessy followed up late in the third with the game winner. Connelly Springer saved 18 of 20 shots for Thomas, and Ethan Breton saved 36 of 39 for Churchville-Chili. Webster Thomas will play Canandaigua in the Class B finals on Sunday, March 1. READ MORE.

SPENCERPORT (18-4-0) 0

Canandaigua advanced to the sectional finals thanks to a hat trick and two assists from Carter McWilliams, who was involved in all five scoring plays. Goalie Cade Chesler recorded a 33-save shutout. Scoring began in the second period as McWilliams found the back of the net by himself 6:57 into the period. Matt McMullen followed up shortly after on a look from McWilliams. The second McWilliams goal came with help from Michael Cichetti three minutes before intermission. Anthony Holtz tallied one on a power play 1:12 into the final period, assisted by Lucas Schwartz and McWilliams. McWilliams earned his third goal at the 2:36 mark, assisted by CJ Cangemi. Spencerport goalies Rachel Brase and Trevor Wiesner stopped 12 for 17 and 5 for 5 respectively. Canandaigua will play Webster Thomas in the Class B finals on Sunday, March 1. READ MORE.
