RIT men keep Bard winless behind strong first half

ROCHESTER, NY — The RIT (5-9, 2-5 Liberty League) men’s basketball team defeated Bard College (0-13, 0-7 Liberty League) 80-67 in Liberty League action from Clark Gymnasium Saturday afternoon.

RIT led 43-26 at halftime, and withstood a Bard run in the second half to secure the win. The Tigers shot 45.3 percent from the floor on 29-of-64 shooting. The Tigers made 7-of-17 from beyond the arc, and went 15-of-23 from the foul line. Michael Young (Brookly, NY/Nazareth Regional) was one of five Tigers to score in double-figures, finishing with 15 points and eight rebounds. Cobey Adekanbi (Bloomfield, CT/Loomis Chafee) and Kevin Ryan (Rochester, NY/Pittsford Sutherland) each tallied 14 points, Curtis Nesbit (Woodbridge, NJ/Woodbridge) scored 11 points, and Matt Anderson (Bennington, VT/Mt. Anthony Union) chipped in 10 points for the Tigers.

Elliot Harris led Bard with 23 points on 9-of-15 shooting. Stamatis Koulouris tallied 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Raptors, while Kevin Le chipped in 16 points,. Bard shot 40.9 percent from the floor, including 11-of-35 from beyond the arc.

Leading 43-26 at halftime, Bard cut the Tigers lead to 5040 on a Harris bucket early in the second half. The Tigers built their lead back to 13 points on a Jake Gugula (Fulton, NY/G. Ray Bodley) jumper with 13:21 to play. The Raptors proved to be pesky, cutting the RIT lead eight points on a pair of Le free throws.

After a pair of Ryan free throws gave RIT a 61-51 lead, Koulouris cut the RIT lead to seven points on his three-pointer with 6:46 to play. With two minutes to play, Koulouris drained another three-pointer, cutting the RIT lead to 73-67. Young drained a three-pointer for RIT on the Tigers next possession to increase the lead to 76-67. Adekanbi put an exclamation point on the win with his dunk off a nice feed from Will Atkinson (Orchard Park, NY/Canisius) to increase the Tigers lead to 79-67.

RIT returns to action on Friday, Jan. 24, when the Tigers face St. Lawrence University at 7:30 p.m. from Canton, N.Y.
