WASHINGTON, DC – The Roberts women’s basketball team picked up their sixth straight win as they defeated the University of the District of Columbia, 70-54, moving the Redhawks to 4-2 in the East Coast Conference.
The win was highlighted by Emily Miller’s third straight double double scoring 24 points for the Redhawks and adding 13 rebounds, two blocks, and two assists.
The Redhawks were fierce out of the gate putting up a 20 point run and only allowing five points for the Firebirds within the first ten minutes of play. The 20-5 point stint proved to be too much as UDC fought back outscoring Roberts in the second half, but the Redhawks completely diminished the opportunity for the ECC rival to capture the lead as Roberts built off their first quarter success taking the team to its largest at lead 28 points in the third quarter.
Two other Roberts players joined Miller in scoring double digits,Taryn Wilson with 11 points and Tashayla Sutorius with ten. The trio were impact players from beyond the arc scoring six of the seven total three-pointers helping Roberts go 7-15 (46.7%) in comparison to the Firebirds 2-21 (9.5%).
The team was 24-46 (54.3%) from the field and 12-20 (65%) from the free throw line.
Up next, Roberts is back home as they face off against New York Tech on Friday, January 24th at 6 p.m.
