ROCHESTER, NY — Three Tigers scored in double-figures as the RIT (5-9, 3-3 Liberty League) women’s basketball team defeated first-place Rensselaer (9-4, 5-1 Liberty League) 86-71 in Liberty League action from Clark Gymnasium Friday evening.
RIT shot 58.5 percent from te floor on 31-of-53 shooting. The Tigers made 10-of-20 from beyond the arc, and made 14-of-20 free throws. Brooke Stanley (Minnetonka, MN/Benilde-St. Margaret’s) led RIT with 23 points, five rebounds and three assists. Kaleesha Joseph (Somerville, MA/Prospect Hill Academy Charter) tallied 22 points and five rebounds, while Sabrina Wolfe (Troy, NY/Troy) finished with 18 points.
Celia Tomlinson led Rensselaer with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Courtney Lewis tallied 15 points, while Ines Ortea chipped in 18 points for the Engineers who shot 40.0 percent from the floor.
RIT led 26-18 after the first quarter, and 41-39 at halftime. The Tigers outscored the Engineers 21-16 in the third quarter and tacked on 24 points in the fourth quarter to hang on for the 15-point win. Rensselaer cut the RIT lead to seven points midway through the fourth quarter on a pair of free throws from Sam Krumbhaar.
RIT returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 18, when the Tigers host Bard College at 2 p.m. from Clark Gymnasium.
