ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan men’s basketball team saw a second half double digit lead slip away as the Redhawks fell to Queens College in overtime on Sunday evening, 87-85.
Midway through the second half Roberts held its largest lead of the game at 17 points, but turnovers began to spoil the lead and allow Queens back into the game. The Redhawks finished the game with 24 turnovers, including 11 in the second half alone. A 14-2 run for Queens over a seven-minute span cut the Redhawks’ lead to just five points. At the 5:47 mark a pair of free throws by the Knights tied the game up and with 4:30 remaining Queens took its first lead of the game.
Reggie Clark (Greece Arcadia) hit a game tying three pointer with 13 seconds remaining to tie the game at 70-70 and send the contest into overtime. In the extra period turnovers continued to plague the Redhawks as the team committed five. Roberts still had an opportunity to win the game with just seconds left after Queens missed a pair of free throws, but a cross-court pass went out of bounds, giving the ball back to the visitors.
Clark was the team’s leading scorer with 30 points to go along with nine rebounds and two steals. Armon Nasseri added a double double of 27 points and 14 rebounds.
Roberts falls to 3-13 overall and 0-5 in the conference. The Redhawks will travel to the University of the District of Columbia on Friday for an 8 p.m. tipoff.
