Forward Kirsten Simms netted a hat trick and an assist for Selects Academy at BK U19 in their 7-0 win over Trinity College School Saturday at Nichols Prep. Selects allowed only 5 shots on goalie Shelbi Düster, who registered a shutout.
Kirsten Simms scored an early goal a minute and a half after puck drop, assisted by Valerie Hache. Caroline Harvey then found the back of the net on a power play 4:38 into the period, connecting with Sophia Kyrkostas. Simms and Harvey were point leaders the night before, earning three each against Gilmour Academy.
Selects tallied three more goals in the second period with no answer from Trinity. Ellie Marcovsky struck early in the period on a look from Haley Winn, and Simms grabbed her second goal nine minutes in, assisted by Laila Edwards. Jule Schiefer scored with 27 seconds left on an assist from Valerie Hache, her second assist of the night.
Two additional goals in the final period put the selects up by seven. Kirsten Simms banked her hat trick 6:16 into the third period with help from Kendall Butze. Butze scored two minutes later on a look from Laila Edwards, who also earned two assists. Selects kept control of the puck the entire game, shooting 44 times and allowing Trinity only 5 shots.

Goalie Bailey Callaway stopped 34 shots to register a shutout in the first of two games Saturday as Selects Academy at BK 16U beat the Syracuse Valley Eagles at home 3-0. Peyton Compton scored off a rebound goal in the first period, rushing the net to finish Caroline Kee’s low shot that bounced off the Eagles goalie. No goals came in the second period. With 12 minutes left in the third period, Bella Vasseur buried a rebound off a shot from Olivia Rubinstein to make it 2-0 Selects. Vasseur hit the empty netter with 48 seconds left to put Syracuse Valley away.

Syracuse Valley scored early in the first period as Selects Academy at BK 16U fell 0-1 in the second game Saturday. Both teams stayed quiet for the remainder of the game. Selects goalie Ava McNaughton stopped 29 of 30 shots to keep things close. Selects pulled McNaughton with a minute and a half left in the third, but the extra skater made no difference and Selects couldn’t come up with a goal.
