Tah-Jae Hill led Hilton to a five-point win this week. Adam Williams racked up 50 points in Gates-Chili’s split week. In two Brighton wins, Tyler Ortiz finished with two double-doubles. Tony Arnold averaged 32 points in two Eastridge victories, including a big one against a Monroe County rival.
For those reasons and more, Monroe County coaches recognized the four as Players of the Week (Dec.16-Dec. 20) in their respective division.
Hilton played Penfield last week and sealed a 60-55 victory with the help of Hill. The senior guard, and Monroe County Division I Player of the Week (POTW) scored 18 of his 27 total points in the second half to capture the victory. He connected on 14 of his 16 free throw attempts. In Hilton’s last three games, he has averaged 32 points, ten rebounds, two assists, and one steal per game. The Cadets are set to face Eugenio Maria on Friday, December 27 at 6:15 p.m.
Gates-Chili finished last week with a loss to Victor and a bounce-back win over Spencerport. In both, Williams shined. The six-foot-four junior started his week with a 24-point game against Victor. He finished 9-for-16 from the field and 5-for-8 beyond the arc. He also pulled down five rebounds, dished three assists, and grabbed three steals. Against Spencerport, the Monroe County Division II POTW upped his point total by a bucket, finishing with 26 points. His 11 field goals, including three three-pointers, led Gates-Chili to a 78-71 win. His presence was noticeable on a floor, as he finished with four assists and five steals. Williams and the Spartans will be at Rush-Henrietta on Friday, December 27 for a holiday tournament, facing Pittsford Sutherland first at 4:30 p.m.
In the first five games, Brighton’s Ortiz has posted three double-doubles, two of which came last week. The junior forward, Monroe County DIII POTW, scored 25 points and pulled 13 rebounds in the Barons’ 79-34 win over Greece Olympia. In a ten-point win over Greece Arcadia, he finished with 17 points and 11 rebounds. He also totaled five assists and four blocks between the two games. Brighton returns to the court to face Brockport on Friday, December 27.
Arnold was a driving force in Eastridge’s 56-49 win over Pittsford Mendon last week. READ MORE. Once trailing by five, The Division IV POTW led a 14-2 third quarter surge to transform the deficit to a seven-point lead. His season-high 32 points helped seal a win Arnold was hungry for. The Lancers took a 99-64 win over Monroe later in the week as well. For both games, the senior guard averaged 32 points, four rebounds, three assists, and three steals per game. He shot 64% from the field and 91% at the line. Eastridge will play Greece Athena at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, December 27 at Hilton High School.
