Four of five Section V champions qualified for the state tournament this upcoming weekend in Cortland. They will take on teams from Sections X, II and I. Here’s how they match up:
Class D: Saturday, Nov. 16 at 12:30 PM
HAMMOND RED DEVILS (18-1-0/ WEST DIVISION) vs. AVOCA TIGERS (19-2-0)/STEUBEN DIVISION II)
How they got here: Hammond (No. 2 NYSSWA), the top seed in the Section X Class D playoffs, defeated Colton-Pierrepont 5-1 in its first sectional game. The Red Devils followed that up with a 3-1 win over Parishville-Hopkinton in the sectional semifinals and a 2-0 win over Edwards-Knox to claim the sectional title. Hammond advanced to the state semifinals with a 1-0 win over Section VII champion Chazy.
Avoca (No. 4 NYSSWA) took down Prattsburgh 10-0 to open postseason play. The Tigers breezed by Batavia Notre Dame 6-1 and Hinsdale 5-1 to claim the Class D2 title. Avoca won the overall Section V Class D championship with a 1-0 win over Fillmore. Avoca made the state semifinals after beating North Collins 7-1 in the Far West Regional.

What’s at stake: A trip to the NYS Class D finals against the winner of Northville (II) vs. Poland (III).
Class C: Saturday, Nov. 16 at 12:30 PM
STILLWATER WARRIORS (19-0-2/WASAREN LEAGUE DUTCH DIVISION) vs. MARION BLACK KNIGHTS (20-1-0/WAYNE COUNTY DIVISION I)
How they got here: Stillwater (No. 1 NYSSWA) defeated Lake George 5-0 in the Section II Class C semifinals before beating Voorheesville 6-2 in to claim the sectional title. The Warriors then beat AuSable Valley 4-0 to advance to the state semifinals.
Marion (No. 4 NYSSWA) beat Bishop Kearney 6-1 and Bolivar-Richburg 5-2 in its first two sectional games. The Black Knights then took down Wheatland-Chili 3-2 and Warsaw 8-3 to finish off its Section V opponents. Marion made the state semifinals by beating Frewsburg 4-0.

What’s at stake: A trip to the NYS Class C finals against the winner of Haldane (I) vs. Unatego (IV).
Class B: Saturday, Nov. 16 at 3 PM
PLEASANTVILLE PANTHERS (17-1-2/CONFERENCE 3 LEAGUE A) vs. GREECE OLYMPIA SPARTANS (17-3-1/MONROECOUNTY DIVISION 4)
How they got here: Pleasantville (No. 1 NYSSWA) rolled through the Section I Class B tournament. The Panthers beat North Salem 4-0, Blind Brook 6-1 and Bronxville 3-0 to advance to regionals. Pleasantville then beat Chenango Forks 2-0 and O’Neill 4-0 to advance to the state semifinals.
Greece Olympia (No. 3 NYSSWA) beat Greece Odyssey, Hornell and St. Thomas Aquinas 1-0 to win the Section V Class B1 title. The Spartans then beat Avon 2-0 to move on to the Far West Regional. Once it got there, Olympia edged Iroquois 1-0 to advance to the state final four.

What’s at stake: A trip to the NYS Class B finals against the winner of Central Valley Academy (III) vs. Babylon (XI).
Class A: Saturday, Nov. 16 at 12:30 PM
PEARL RIVER PIRATES (16-1-3/CONFERENCE 2 LEAGUE B) vs. SPENCERPORT RANGERS (15-3-2/MONROE COUNTY DIVISION II)
How they got here: Pearl River (No. 4 NYSSWA) beat Yorktown 4-0 and Clarkstown South 1-0 to kick off sectional play. The Pirates (I) then defeated Albertus Magnus 1-0 in overtime and Somers 3-0 to polish off the Section I Class A sectional tournament. Pearl River then went on to beat Vestal 2-1 and Minisink Valley 4-0 to capture its regional championship.
Spencerport (No. 3 NYSSWA) knocked off Wayne 2-0, Brockport 2-1 and Pittsford Mendon 2-0 to claim its fourth straight Section V Class A Championship. Once the Rangers got to the Far West Regional, they beat Grand Island 2-1 to advance to the state semifinals.

What’s at stake: A trip to the NYS Class A state finals against the winner of Jamesville-DeWitt (III) vs. Shoreham-Wading River (XI).
