Following the completion of the Section V regional qualifiers, there is just one team left in each class that can take home a state title. The next step in those journeys will be the New York State Far West Regionals, which will take place on Friday, Nov. 8 and Saturday, Nov. 9 at Williamsville East High School. Avoca (D), Marion (C), Greece Olympia (B), Spencerport (A) and Penfield (AA) will be taking on Section VI counterparts from the same classes.
Class D Friday, Nov. 8, 5 PM at Williamsville East High School
AVOCA (18-2-0) vs. NORTH COLLINS (8-6-2)
How they arrived here: North Collins (No. 11 NYSSWA) won the Section VI Class D championship.
Avoca (No. 9 NYSSWA) defeated Prattsburgh, Batavia Notre Dame and Hinsdale to capture the Class D2 crown. The Tigers then went on to beat previously unbeaten Fillmore (No. 2 NYSSWA) in the regional qualifier.
Top Performers for North Collins: Rebecca Holmes (11 goals/ 2 assists), Maddie Turnbull (3 goals/1 assist), Robin Hidy (3 goals/ 1 assist) and Pia Froelich (1 goal/5 assists).
Top Performers for Avoca: Selina Jud (30 goals/19 assists), Alexis Weldy (27 goals/17 assists), Delaney Stowe (23 goals/8 assists), Riley Stowe (13 goals/8 assists).
What’s at stake: A spot in the NYS Class D semifinals against the Chazy (VII) vs. Hammond (X) winner.
Class C: Saturday, Nov. 9, 12:30 PM at Williamsville East High School
MARION (19-1-0) vs. FREWSBURG (15-4-1)
How they arrived here: Frewsburg (No. 9 NYSSWA) had to win four games to capture the Section VI crown, but got the job done. The Bears defeated Cattaraugus-Little Valley, Holland, Maple Grove and Westfield (No. 10 NYSSWA) to make it to this point.
Marion (No. 5 NYSSWA) ran through the Class C2 tournament to make the regional qualifier. The Black Knights beat Bishop Kearney, Bolivar-Richburg and Wheatland-Chili (No. 14 NYSSWA). Once in the regional qualifier, Marion took down Warsaw (No. 8 NYSSWA) to advance on to the Far West Regional.
Top Performers from Frewsburg: Samantha Annis (7 goals/3 assists), Makenna McBride (4 goals/2 assists), Rachael Kerhli (3 goals/3 assists) and Alexandra Hultberg (2 goals/4 assists).
Top Performers from Marion: Chloe DeLyser (73 goals/30 assists), Abigail Marotta (19 goals/32 assists), Brooke Guerin (15 goals/10 assists) and Alaina Taylor (10 goals/18 assists).
What’s at stake: A spot in the NYS Class C semifinals against the AuSable Valley (VII) vs. Stillwater (II) winner.
Class B: Friday, Nov. 8, 6 PM at Williamsville East High School
GREECE OLYMPIA (16-3-1) vs. IROQUOIS (19-1-0)
How they arrived here: Iroquois (No. 6 NYSSWA) took down Olean and East Aurora in one-goal games, then beat City Honors 6-2 to claim the B1 title. The Chiefs then beat Allegheny 5-3 to move on to the Far West Regional.
Greece Olympia (No. 7 NYSSWA) won three consecutive 1-0 games to take the Class B1 championship. The Spartans then took out Churchville-Chili 2-0 in the regional qualifier move on.
Top Performers from Iroquois: Grace Kulniszewski (36 goals/23 assists), Morgan Kulniszewski (28 goals/27 assists), Brittany Eslinger (9 goals/7 assists) and Vada Kirsch (7 goals/5 assists).
Top Performers for Greece Olympia: Kuditra DeRosa (26 goals/ 11 assists), Grace Collins (19 goals/ 13 assists), Ashley Campbell (10 goals/8 assists) and Morgan Welch (4 goals/4 assists).
What’s at stake: A spot in the NYS Class B semifinals against the Pleasantville (I) vs. James I. O’Neill (IX) winner.
Class A: Saturday, Nov. 9, 11 AM at Williamsville East High School
SPENCERPORT (14-3-2) vs. GRAND ISLAND (17-2-1)
How they arrived here: Grand Island (No. 12 NYSSWA) scored two goals in all three of its sectional games against Starpoint, Lewiston and Amherst to move on to the regional qualifier against Hamburg (No. 5 NYSSWA). The Vikings won that game 1-0 to advance to face Spencerport.
Spencerport’s scores in sectional play were identical to Grand Island’s. The Rangers defeated Pittsford Mendon (No. 15 NYSSWA) to advance to the Far West Regional.
Top Performers for Grand Island: Avery Mondoux (16 goals/12 assists), Ella Rudney (15 goals/ 13 assists), Brooke Amato (14 goals/ 14 assists) and Eve DiCarlo (12 goals/6 assists).
Top Performers for Spencerport: Corynna Rotoli (14 goals/3 assists), Maddy Brongo (4 goals/9 assists), Lily Brongo (7 goals/3 assists), Sabrina Trapani (4 goals/3 assists) and Cat Wall (1,255 minutes played/0.382 goals against).
What’s at stake: A spot in the NYS Class A semifinals against the Pearl River (I) vs. Minisink Valley (IX) winner.
Class AA: Saturday, Nov. 9, 2 PM at Williamsville East High School
PENFIELD (13-1-4) vs. CLARENCE (14-2-2)
How they arrived here: Clarence (No. 13 NYSSWA) scored nine goals in three sectional game to advance to the Far West Regional. The Red Devils defeated Niagara Falls, Frontier and Lancaster (No. 6 NYSSWA) in the Section VI Class AA tournament.
Penfield (No. 10 NYSSWA) only played one one-goal game en route to a sectional championship. The Patriots beat Gates-Chili, Fairport and then advanced on PKs against Webster-Schroeder (No. 11 NYSSWA) to move on to face Clarence.
Top Performers for Clarence: Kailey O’Brien (20 goals/13 assists), Olivia Argentieri (7 goals/ 11 assists), Anevay Rice (8 goals/6 assists) and Payton Payne (7 goals/4 assists).
Top Performers for Penfield: Rebecca Rolland (10 goals/6 assists), Delaney Tellex (7 goals/3 assists), Amanda Fordham (6 goals/3 assists), Grace Murphy (4 goals/2 assists) and Victoria Sabel (4 goals/2 assists).
