Bath-Haverling and Bishop Kearney to battle for B2 crown

Suiting up for its fourth consecutive finals appearance, reigning B2 Section V champion, Bath-Haverling finds itself in a familiar spot against former C2 victors, Bishop Kearney. Saturday afternoon in Avon, the undefeated Rams will be tasked with the team that has taken down the No.2 and No.3 seeds in consecutive fashion. Here’s what you need to know:

No. 1 BATH-HAVERLING RAMS (18-0-0/LCAA Division I) vs.
No. 7 BISHOP KEARNEY KINGS (10-8-1/Private/Parochial)

How they got here: Bath-Haverling (No.1 NYSSWA Class B) defeated No.8 Wayland-Cohocton and No.4 World Of Inquiry School #58 to snag a spot in the finals. Bishop Kearney downed No.10 North Rose Wolcott in the first round with a 7-nil victory and beat No.2 Mynderse, 2-1 in the quarterfinals. The Kings advanced on penalty kicks after tying 2-2 with No.3 Letchworth/Warsaw in the semis.

Total goals scored: Bath-Haverling (78), Bishop Kearney (72)

Total goals allowed: Bath-Haverling (9), Bishop Kearney (42)

Trends: Bath-Haverling gave up its first goal in eight games in the semifinal match against WOIS. The Rams have outscored its opponents 9-1 in two matches this postseason. Bishop Kearney has won seven of its last eight with four shutouts. Key second half goals have propelled the Kings through the postseason.

Names to know: Bath-Haverling — Thomas Binkowski (29 goals, 14 assists), Lorenzo Serafini (11 goals, one assist), Keefer Calkins (11 goals, eight assists), Jordan Deats (68 saves in 1,438 minutes in goal, 0.501 goals against average).

Bishop Kearney — Evan Stevely (34 goals, ten assists), Caleb Baraka (13 goals, six assists), Fernando Furioso (12 goals, 11 assists), Casey O’Gara (five goals, 16 assists), Katrell McFarland (99 saves, 2.496 goals against average).

Coaches: Matt Hill (Bath-Haverling), Stephen Strauss (Bishop Kearney)

History 101: Bath-Haverling won the crown in 2018 after losing in the finals in 2017 and 2016. This year will be Bath-Haverling’s fourth consecutive championship appearance. Bishop Kearney claimed the 2017 Class C2 title.
