ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan men’s soccer team picked up another conference win on Saturday with a 3-2 victory over Queens College.
Ruiz got the Redhawks on the board first in the 20th minute and Spencer followed with the second goal of the game in the 27th minute to give Roberts a demanding 2-0 advantage. And just two minutes later Ruiz scored again off an assist from Johanz Tusiime to put the Redhawks up 3-0.
Roberts held the Knights off for the majority of the second half and did not allow Queens to score within the pace of regular play. Queens picked up their first goal on a penalty kick opportunity. Roberts’ goalkeeper Joe McNulty (Brockport) made the save but the referee gave the Knights a second attempt after calling the Redhawks for stepping into the box too early. Emgi Gousse put the second attempt away.
With under one minute to play in regulation, Queens was awarded a free kick directly outside the box. Kevin Quituizaca took the free kick and scored to draw the Knights within one goal, but not enough time remained on the clock for the visitors to have an attempt to tie the game up.
McNulty made six saves in net for Roberts and only allowed the penalty kick goal during his 77 minutes of action.
Roberts Wesleyan (5-4-1, 2-0 ECC) will travel to the University of the District of Columbia next Saturday for a 1 p.m. game.
