MORRISVILLE, N.Y. — Host Morrisville scored the game-tying goal with less than three minutes left in regulation Tuesday as the Golden Flyers and he Mustangs settled for a 1-1 tie in a non-conference men’s soccer match.
The Golden Flyers, winless in their last three starts, has an overall record of 4-2-1. Morrisville is 2-4-1.
Despite statistical advantages in shots (16-4) and corner kicks (6-2), Nazareth mustered just one goal — on a second-half penalty kick by Jake Adams, who delivered his third goal — and second penalty kick goal — of the season.
That came in the 58th minute after Morrisville committed a foul in the penalty area. Adams also had a penalty kick goal in last week’s loss at Fredonia. It looked like that goal would be the difference in the outcome, but Morrisville ruined that plan when Chandley Elie scored on low shot into the left corner that beat Nazareth keeper Brian Wilkin (Hilton). That came with 2:45 left in the second half and resulted in two 10-minute overtime periods.
The Mustangs had, perhaps, the best chance in the first overtime when a free kick by Teo Chavez was punched off the crossbar by Wilkin.
Morrisville keeper Tyler Card had two saves in the second overtime period, including one on a last-ditch attempt in the closing seconds by Adams, who was able to get his head on a centering pass.
Wilkin finished with two saves for Nazareth. Card had nine for Morrisville.
Nazareth opens Empire 8 Conference play Saturday at home against Alfred at 1 p.m.
