PITTSFORD, NY – Madison Drenowatz and Carolyn Richards scored two goals apiece as the University of Rochester women’s soccer team defeated St. John Fisher College on the road Saturday evening.

They have combined for 10 of Rochester’s 12 goals through the first five games. Drenowatz has six goals, three of them gamewinners (including vs. Fisher). Richards has four scores, one gamewinner.

The fifth UR goal came from Jorie Freitag midway through the second period. Robin de Jong assisted on the first Drenowatz goal and Cesca Shepherd assisted on the Freitag tally.

Goals for the Cardinals came in the second half. Chase Logan headed a shot home to get the hosts on the scoreboard at 4-1. Abigail Barr took advantage of the goalkeeper playing too far off the line and chipped home the second SJFC tally – this in the 81st minute.

Rochester burst in front before the match was two minutes old. deJong crossed the ball from the corner and Drenowatz was there to turn it home beyond the reach of Lila Platt. Richards scored an unassisted goal in the ninth minute.

With just over five minutes left before the halftime whistle, Drenowatz came through on a breakaway and slipped the ball past Platt for a 3-0 lead at the half.

Richards made it 4-0 in the second half when her shot deflected into the net off of Fisher’s Kierra Duvall. Chase pulled one back for Fisher, but Sheppard’s corner kick enabled Freitag to score from in front of goal.

For Fisher (2-4), Lila Platt made two saves in 90 minutes. Emma Schechter made four saves and allowed two goals in 89:18. Becca Rust played the final 42 seconds.

Rochester’s win improved the Yellowjacket record to 4-1. The team is idle until next Saturday when second-ranked William Smith comes to the Prince Athletic Complex for a 6 pm kickoff at Edwin Fauver Stadium.
