Oswego blows past Fisher at Skidmore Alumni Classic

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. –  The St. John Fisher College men’s soccer team suffered a 1-7 loss to Oswego State at Wachenheim Field on Sunday in the second round of the Skidmore Alumni Soccer Classic.  The Cardinals fell to 0-4 on the season while the Lakers rose to 2-2.

The Lakers put up three scores in a 9-minute first half run, to which they added one more after a penalty shot struck the back of the Cardinals’ net.

Down four goals, Cardinals’ sophomore midfielder Justin Bonetto sailed a 30-yard free kick over the head of the Lakers’ keeper to put Fisher in the scoring column before the break.

Oswego netted three more goals over the course of the contest which the Cardinals were unable to overcome.

Fisher took 11 shots throughout the match, five of which were on goal.  The Cardinals were led by Bonetto who had two.

Starting goalkeeper Peyton Mattis had five saves in the first 45 minutes of play.  He was relieved in the second half by Cal Kolb, who had two saves.

The Cardinals are back in action at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, September 11 when they host their home opener against the College at Brockport Golden Eagles.
