Tom Etsler, the all-time winningest  boys soccer coach at Spencerport HS, has decided to step down as the Rangers’ coach.

“ I look forward to focusing on my family and being able to watch my two sons play their sports,” Etsler said. “I would like to thank all of my players who I have been fortunate to coach along with their families.  They have created some tremendous memories.   I also greatly appreciate the support I have received from the school, our athletic director – John Pelin and the Spencerport community.”

Etsler compiled a career record of 254-150-48  and led the Rangers to seven MCPSAC divisional titles and five Section V titles over his 24 year career. He was also named Coach of the Year on 12 occasions.

“Tom took over a very successful tradition-laden program  which is always very difficult,” Spencerport Athletic Director John Pelin said.  “He was able to continue this success and improve our program by being not only an excellent teacher but also taking the time to develop tremendous relationships with his student-athletes.  In addition, his teams are always well prepared and he does things the right way.   He certainly will be very difficult to replace.”

A Churchville-Chili high school graduate, Etsler studied at Brockport State. He started his coaching career  as an assistant soccer coach at Churchville-Chili and then was the  head coach at Genesee Community College for two seasons winning one conference championship before being hired as a physical education teacher at Spencerport in 1993.

He first coached the Rangers girls’ soccer team for two  years and then was named as the boys’ varsity soccer coach in 1995.  He has also served as the Rangers boys varsity golf coach from 2002 to 2007 compiling a record of 52-20-7.
