Section V Semifinal Preview: Boys’ Basketball Class B1

Ranked No. 18 NYSSWA, top-seeded Greece Odyssey closed the regular season with five straight wins.

Greece Odyssey survived the opening round and remains as the top seed in Class B1. No. 2 Newark and No. 3 Hornell were also victorious in the quarterfinal round. No. 5 Geneva knocked off No. 4 Waterloo to advance. Monroe County Division IV meets Finger Lakes East while Finger Lakes East takes on Livingston County when Class B1 tips off the semifinals. Here is the breakdown:

No. 1 GREECE ODYSSEY (18-3/Monroe County Division IV) vs. No. 5 GENEVA (12-9/Finger Lakes East) on Feb 27 at 8:15 PM at Bloomfield High School

Scoring offense: Odyssey (71.20 PPG), Geneva (52.80 PPG)

Scoring defense: Odyssey (56.45 PPG), Geneva (48.65 PPG)

Current streak: Odyssey has won six straight; Geneva closed the regular season with four losses in its last five games.

How they got here: Odyssey edged Livonia 54-53 behind 15 from Jaden Hartsfield and 10 from Ray Colbert.

Geneva’s Akim Hudson scored 19 points and Reid Patchett added 15 points in Geneva’s 67-57 win over Geneva.

Last time they met: First meeting between the two teams this season.

Players to Watch for Odyssey: Jaden Hartsfield Jr. 15.8 PPG, Travon Harper Sr. 11.65 PPG, Aric Williams Sr. 9.35 PPG.

Geneva: Reid Patchett Sr. 12.o PPG. and 7.5 RPG, Akim Hudson Sr. 10.0 PPG. and 7.3 RPG.

Scoring offense: Newark (56.35 PPG), Hornell (50.17 PPG)

Scoring defense: Newark (45.20 PPG), Hornell (48.83 PPG)

Current streak: Newark has won eight straight; Hornell has won five straight

How they got here: Newark’s Mason VanDeMortel scored eight of his team-high 18 points in the fourth quarter as the Reds outscored Batavia, 17-11 over the final eight minutes en route to a 55-49 victory.

Hornell edged sixth-seeded Greece Olympia, 50-49.

Last time they met: First meeting between the two teams this season.
