ROCHESTER, NY — The RIT (17-6, 12-4 Liberty League) women’s basketball team defeated Clarkson University (7-16, 4-12 Liberty League), 75-61 Tuesday afternoon from Clark Gym. The Tigers set a program record by winning their ninth straight game and clinched at least a top-four seed in the upcoming Liberty League Tournament.
RIT shot 42.4 percent from the floor on 25-of-59 shooting, and made 22-of-27 shots from the foul line. Sabrina Wolfe (Troy, NY/Troy) led the Tigers with 24 points on 8-of-16 shooting. Tara Lynch (Green Township, NJ/Newton) tallied 21 points, while Cori Okada (Fullerton, CA/Troy) chipped in 14 points, six assists and six steals. Alyssa Juergens (Rochester, NY/Hilton) stuffed the stat sheet with 10 boards, eight points and five assists.
Molly Stewart led Clarkson with 17 points. Rachel Marion tallied 14 points, while Raeanna Dunn tallied 12 points off the bench for the Golden Knights who shot 41.7 percent from the floor.
RIT outscored Clarkson in all four quarters of play. The Tigers led 17-15 after the first quarter and 36-28 at halftime. Clarkson got as close as two points on a jumper by Marion with 2:39 left in the third quarter, making the score 47-45. RIT ended the quarter on a 10-1 run and scored the first four points of the fourth quarter, taking a 61-46 lead on a layup by Lynch. The Tigers would cruise the rest of the way to win their ninth straight game, all by double digits.
RIT’s defense was relentless, forcing 27 Clarkson turnovers. RIT also won the battle of the boards, 36-30.
RIT returns to action on Friday, Feb. 15 when the Tigers play at Union College at 5 p.m.
