ROCHESTER, NY — The RIT (5-18, 2-14 Liberty League) men’s basketball team lost 85-55 at home to Clarkson University (6-17, 5-11 Liberty League) in Liberty League action from Clark Gym Tuesday evening. It was RIT’s final home game of the regular season.
RIT led 30-29 at halftime, but went scoreless over nearly seven minutes in the second half. Chase Lewis (Ewing, NJ/Princeton Day School) hit a jumper with 13:39 left that gave the Tigers a 47-44 lead. Clarkson would respond with a 29-2 run over the next eight minutes to put the game away.
RIT shot 37.5 percent from the floor on 21-of-56 shooting. The Tigers made just 4-of-23 from beyond the arc, and went 9-of-19 from the foul line. Lewis and Jaymee Rosser (Newark, NY/Newark) led RIT with eight points apiece. Marcell Davis (Buffalo, NY/St. Joseph’s Institute) tallied seven points to go along with seven rebounds.
Matt Higgins led Clarkson with 27 points and 12 rebounds. Matthew Hornak and Reese Swedberg each scored 10 points for the Golden Knights, who shot 44.1 percent from the floor. The Golden Knights shot 53 percent from the field, 50.0 percent from 3-point range and were a perfect 12-for-12 from the foul line in the second half, out-scoring RIT, 56-25.
RIT returns to action on Friday, Feb. 15 with a road contest at Union College that gets underway at 7 p.m.
