The East High girls basketball team overcame a halftime deficit to defeat Aquinas, 49-41 in non-league action Tuesday night.
Trailing by six points at the break, East connected on seven 3-pointers over the next eight minutes and outscored Aquinas 21-10 to take a five-point lead into the final stanza.
Shanique Simms and Shariona Blocker connected three times apiece from 3-point land in the decisive stanza. Daniqua Spann added the seventh triple of the quarter.
Simms finished with a team-high 17 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Blocker had 16 points and four steals. Spann added 11 points. Makayla McCorker scored three points and hauled in a game-high 14 rebounds.
Chanel Alexander hit four 3-pointers and paced the Li’l Irish with 21 points. Nia Williams-Matthews collected 11 points, nine rebounds, seven steals and four assists. Michaela Conti and Lydia Kaplun scored three points apiece for the Maroon and White. Kaplun also had four steals and four rebounds.
The win was the third straight for East which improved to 9-7 on the season.
