Canisius junior guard Isaiah Reese has been named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday. This marks the first time this season a Canisius player has been recognized by the conference’s weekly awards program.

Reese’s effort led Canisius to a pair of MAAC road victories at Quinnipiac and Fairfield last week. In two games, the Miami, Fla., native averaged 13.0 points, 8.0 assists, 6.5 rebounds, 2.5 blocked shots and a steal per game, while shooting 40.9 percent from the field, 36.4 percent from 3-point land and 80.0 percent from the free-throw line.

In the win at Quinnipiac Jan. 17, Reese scored 11 points to go with a season-high nine assists, four rebounds and a career-best four blocks. His 3-point field goal with 4:23 left in the first half, one of his two 3-point makes on the night, allowed him to become the 38th player in program history to score 1,000 points in his career on Main Street.

In the 73-68 victory over Fairfield Jan. 19, Reese filled the box score with 15 points, nine rebounds, seven assists, two steals and a blocked shot. He went 5-for-11 from the field in the win over the Stags, with two of those makes coming from behind the 3-point arc, and he connected on three free-throws in the game’s closing 11 seconds to help seal the win for the Blue and Gold, the Griffs’ sixth road win of the season, which leads the MAAC.

Reese, who ranks second on the Canisius roster with his 12.5 points per game, is in the top-15 in the MAAC in eight different statistical categories. In the most recent NCAA statistical report, he ranks 75th nationally with his 1.8 steals per game, and his 4.4 assists per contest places him 101st in the country among all Division I players.

The Griffs will return to action Thursday when the Blue and Gold hosts Monmouth on Coaches vs. Cancer Suits and Sneakers Night in the Koessler Athletic Center. Game time is set for 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN3, with the radio call available on WECK Buffalo Radio, and the TuneIn app. For tickets, or more information, call the Canisius ticket office at (716) 888-TIXX, or purchase online by visiting
