Weekend Wrap: Dan Cook’s seventh double-double helps Mendon stay undefeated; Northstar moves to 11-0

Junior center Tyler Warner posted his seventh double-double (18 points/22 rebounds) of the season, and Aquinas went on the road to win its second straight game. Warner converted 4-of-4 free throws and scored 10 of his team-high 18 points in the fourth quarter to hold off Bishop Ludden. Jack Scanlon connected on four 3-pointers for the game. The junior scored eight of his 14 points in the first quarter when AQ grabbed an 18-13 lead. The Li’l Irish led 30-18 at halftime. Freshman Jack Bleier finished with eight points, seven assists, four rebounds and two steals. Justin Johnson added nine points for the Maroon and White. Steve Mahar (6), Ruben Torres (5) and Myles Blackwood (4) rounded out the scoring for Aquinas. Monte Johnson scored 20 points and led three in double figures for Ludden. Nic Button had 19 points. Champ Reid chipped in 10.

Jermaine Taggart paced four in double figures with 23 points as McQuaid (No. 12 NYSSWA Class AA) downed the reigning NYS Class AA champions. The junior guard averaging 22.6 per game topped the 20-point mark for the fourth straight game and eighth time this season. The Jesuit Knights led 13-9 after the first quarter and 28-23 at half. Kobe Long converted 10-of-10 free throws in the fourth quarter and finished with 15 points in the game. Connor Zamaria hit 5-of-6 from the charity stripe in the final stanza and scored 12 points in the game. Harry Bruu scored six points in the first quarter and 11 for the game. Alex Ruston led Liverpool with 17 points. Jacob Works added 10 for the Warriors.

Kidtrell Blocker connected on four 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 30 points, but Bishop Kearney came up short in an effort to win its third straight game. Blocker, averaging 23.8 points per game, reached the 30-point mark for the second time in three games. Michael Gentile also connected four times from long range including back-to-back triples in the fourth quarter when Kearney cut a nine-point deficit to two. Gentile finished with a season-high 16 points. Jamal Williams and Miles Monechecourt added six points apiece for BK. Deiontray Dixon had five points, Miles Rose two. Kearney led 40-38 at halftime. Utica-Notre Dame’s Trijen Garrett scored 19 of his team-high 28 points in the second half. Jaylen Warmack added 18 points for the Jugglers, and Patrick Espinosa had 15. Derek Lindsay scored nine.

Six different players scored in the third quarter when Eastridge turned a six-point edge at halftime into a 19-point advantage heading into the fourth quarter. Tony Arnold led a balanced scoring attack which saw five different Lancers reach double figures. Arnold converted four of five from the free throw line, hit a pair of 3-pointers and finished with 22 points. Terrence Reid scored 16. Jalen Rose-Hannah added 13. Jamel Demery had 12 and Jalen Young 10 points. Jaden Keech chipped in six points for Eastridge. Davahn Delazquez had five points and Paxton Reed two. Nate Sponsel paced Brighton with 21 points. Agathia Visveswaran hit three 3-pointers and scored all 13 of his points in the fourth quarter when the Barons held 27-20 advantage. Jack Falter scored seven for Brighton. Lukas Stanat had five points. Matt Falter nd Chase Seibold chipped in four apiece. Stevie McCloud and Najee Awad both scored three. Calvin Tourangeau and Casey McDermott both scored two points.

Devin Campbell scored 16 points, grabbed eight rebounds, handed out two assists and collected two steals to lead Bloomfield. Alexander Roach added 11 points and eight rebounds for the Bombers. Simon Wille had 11 points. Tanner Kimball scored seven points to go with five rebounds and team highs of three assists and three steals. Ryan Hawkins matched Kimball with three assists. Trevor Farrell scored two points.

Adam Enders broke a school record scoring 54 points as Belfast upended Avoca (No. 1 NYSSWA Class D). Enders converted 24 of 27 free throws and hit a pair of 3-pointers on the career day. Enders scored 11 of Belfast’s 13 pints in overtime. Kevin McCumiskey added 13 points. Stephen Struckton scored six points. Nathan Nunn paced Avoca with 25 points. LaDre Stanford added 15 points, and Devin Stowe 13. Thomas Derick and Tristian Stark chipped in eight apiece.

Gabs McDonald, Keith Szczepanksi and Andrew Moore each grabbed nine rebounds in the win. McDonald had eight points, six assists and three steals. Szczepanski scored five and blocked four shots.

The senior forward netted 14 in the first quarter, six in the second, 15 in the third, and five in the fourth. Cook knocked down 14 field goals from inside the arc and all six of his attempts from the free throw line. Leading 42-32 at the break, Michael Harrington netted 12 points in the second half as the Vikings pulled away for the victory. The senior guard finished with 20 and grabbed seven rebounds. Connor Krapf contributed 16 points. Senior guard Kyle Palka scored a team-high 13 for the Blue Devils. Junior guard Esten Schalge chipped in 11 points. The junior guard got to the free throw line nine times and converted eight of them and hit 10 shots from inside the arc. Junior guard Colin Burkis knocked down five three-pointers for his 15 points. Senior forward Mitchell Carr scored 13 and went 5-of-6 at the foul line. Junior guard Matt Caggiano netted a team-high 20 points and three shots from beyond the arc for the Blue Devils. Sophomore center Connor Williams scored 15. Freshman forward Phil Nwugwo contributed 12 points while senior guard Jeremy Summerson had 11. Keith Slack topped Gates with 28 points, due in large part to a trio of threes and a 15-point fourth quarter, six boards and five assists. Slack’s 15-point fourth quarter propelled the Spartans, who entered the final frame knotted at 48 with Webster Thomas, to a 21-16 scoring difference to earn the five-point victory. Adam Williams added a 17-point, 10-rebound double-double for Gates, while Traylan McCray contributed 10 points. The game saw a duel between the two teams, as Webster Thomas led by just three points exiting the first quarter at 18-15, and the score stood tied 31-31 at the half. Andrew Mason led the Titans with a season-high 37 points, knocking down eight three-pointers over the course of the contest. Dannie Palmer finished second on the Titans in scoring with 14 points. Freddie June, Jr. dropped a new season-high of 19 points to lead Irondequoit (No. 16 NYSSWA Class A), finishing the evening a perfect 5-for-5 from the free throw line and hitting a pair of threes. Josh Stenglein followed June Jr. with a season-high of 16 points, also going perfect at the line at 4-for-4. In all, the Eagles went 21-for-30 (87 percent) from the free throw line as a team. Though Irondequoit got off to a strong start, outscoring Churchville-Chili 17-9 in the first quarter, the Saints were able to hang around and go into the final quarter of play trailing 56-46. However, the Eagles closed out in resounding fashion, ending the game by outscoring Churchville-Chili 31-7 in the fourth. Marcus Postell topped the Saints with 17 points, including 11 in the third quarter. Griffen Stella added 14 points, eight in the second quarter, for Churchville-Chili. Stefan Milinkovic led the Red Raiders with 18 points, his second-highest point total of the season (21 points against Rome Free Academy), and six rebounds. Milinkovic scored nine of his 18 points during a first quarter in which Fairport outscored Rush-Henrietta 21-5. Andre Starks knocked down a pair of three-pointers and went 4-for-6 from the charity stripe en route to 16 points for Fairport. Ryan Lucey pulled in five rebounds and handed out four assists to go with four points. Fairport’s defensive effort held the Royal Comets to its lowest point total of the season at 34, allowing them to lead wire-to-wire. Nyles Goodwin topped the Royal Comets, who were without starter Shamire Broyld due to an injury, with 11 points. Goodwin finished as Rush-Henrietta’s lone double-digit scorer. The Spencerport Rangers roared back after trailing by six at halftime to score their fourth win of the season over the Canandaigua Braves, 65-58. Cartier Jefferson led the Rangers with 12 points. while the rest of the balanced attack included Nick Thibeau with 11 and Patrick Uebelacker, who contributed 10. The Braves were led by the sharp shooting of Chris Kurkowski, who poured in a game-high 26 points. Ryan Welch scored 16. Camden White scored 12 points and grabbed five boards. Senior captain Andrew Francis who netted nine, collected five rebounds and dished out seven of his 10 assists in the second half. The Spartans were led by senior captain Jeff Jung, Jr. who scored 23 points and grabbed five rebounds and sophomore Collin James who tallied 13 points, 13 rebounds, six blocks, and five assists. Sophomore guard David Cuozzo netted 11. “It was a battle right to the end,” Knights head coach Ed Orman commented on the victory. “We buckled down at a couple of key moments and finished at the hoop. Both teams showed a lot of character and fight. Kudos to Pavilion on a great game and I feel really fortunate that we were able to make a few plays at the end and secure the win.” Senior guard Colby Tillotson scored a game-high 24 points for the Golden Gophers. Junior forward Cameron Milligan netted 18 and senior forward Ryley Elliott had 13.

Lyons (No. 5 NYSSWA Class C) moved to 11-1 on the season thanks to two 20+ point scoring efforts from Justice Smith and Justin Smith Jr. Justice Smith, recorded a game-high 26 points and had 16 points in the first half. Justin Smith recorded a 22-point game and also had 16 points in the first half to help give Lyons a 13 point lead at the half. David Weaver and Ahmir James each added seven points.
