RIT’s Abbott Girduckis named Atlantic Hockey Player of the Week

ROCHESTER, NY – Senior forward Abbott Girduckis (Belleville, Ontario/Wellington Dukes) of the RIT men’s hockey team was named the Atlantic Hockey Player of the Week on Tuesday, for the week ending Jan. 6, 2019. It is Girduckis’ first Atlantic Hockey weekly honor of his collegiate career.

Girduckis recorded five points on two goals and three assists and was plus-2 in a three-point weekend against league foe Niagara. Friday, Girduckis had a goal and two assists, including the primary helper on Will Calverley’s (Scarborough, Ontario/Chilliwack Chiefs) game-tying goal with 1:05 left in a 4-4 tie. Saturday, Girduckis opened the scoring with his eighth goal of the year and had the lone assist on Adam Brubacher’s (Elmira, Ontario/Powell River Kings) game-winning goal with 1.4 seconds left in a 2-1 win.

Girduckis has eight points over his last three games and leads RIT in scoring in 2018-19 with 21 points on eight goals and 13 assists this season.

RIT puts its three-game unbeaten streak on the line this weekend with a pair of road games at Atlantic Hockey foe American International College. Friday’s game from the MassMutual Center starts at 2:05 p.m., while Saturday’s contest gets underway at 1:05 p.m.
