BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The College at Brockport women’s basketball team grabbed game one of their annual Tip-Off Tournament, topping D’Youville College 85-74.
The Golden Eagles came out hot, demanding the court from the start. Senior Emily Nestler (Rush-Henrietta) drove the Green and Gold offense in the first half, racking up 19 points, 13 of which were in the second quarter alone, and five rebounds, while completing all five attempts at the free throw line. Kylee Rosbrook was the Golden Eagles triple threat, knocking down seven points both from the paint and outside the circle. The Golden Eagles offense was dominant from all angles, with Schyler Laux and Julianna Taylor not falling far behind, account for ten points and six rebounds collectively.
Brockport continued their healthy lead through the third quarter and most of the fourth quarter, only allowing D’Youville to come as close as nine points before opening the gap again. The Golden Eagles saw an impressive performance from their bench, who accounted for 27 points. Freshman Morgan Elmer was the dark horse off the bench, amassing 12 points and three rebounds.
Nestler ran the show for the Green and Gold, finishing the night with 28 points, eight rebounds, three assists, and a block, while having a standout night at the free throw line, completing 10-of-11 attempts. While Nestler demanded the paint the Golden Eagles also saw strong performances from four other players who put up double digit points. Rosbrook, Elmer, Laux, and Taylor each added to the scoring frenzy, putting up 15, 12, 11, and 10 points respectively. The Golden Eagles put up 16 second chance points off their aggressive mentality under the basket, accounting for 34 points in the paint to end the night.
The Golden Eagles advance to tomorrow’s championship matchup against Houghton College at 4 p.m.
