ROCHESTER – Mohawk Valley Community College used advantages in rebounding and free throw shooting to come away with a 70-66 victory over Monroe Community College at the sixth annual Murph Shapiro Basketball Classic Sunday afternoon.
The Hawks (3-1) finished 20-for-26 from the charity stripe on the day, compared to just 13-for-26 for the Tribunes (3-2). Mohawk also held a huge edge on the glass, pulling down 45 rebounds to Monroe’s 22. Sixteen of those MVCC boards were on the offensive end, which they turned into 18 second-chance points.
