Semifinal Preview: Boys Soccer Class C1

Top-seeded Williamson (No. 2 NYSSWA) battles league foe East Rochester while Byron-Bergen/Elba (No. 15 NYSSWA) tangles with Sodus. Spots in the Section V Class C1 final are for the taking. Here’s the breakdown:

No. 1 seed Williamson Marauders (16-0-1/Wayne County) vs. No. 4 seed East Rochester Bombers (12-6-0/Wayne County)

How they got here: Williamson beat No. 8 seed Gananda 8-1 in quarterfinals. East Rochester defeated Pembroke 7-0 in the first round and Avon 1-0 in the quarterfinals.

Season matchup: The Marauders shut out the Bombers 3-0 in both regular season contests.

Names to know: Williamson – Justin Eaton (30 goals, 13 assists), Hunter Byron (11 goals, seven assists), Luis Hurtado (nine goals, four assists), Tyler Ingham (six goals, nine assists), Josh Bailey (five goals, eight assists), George Konstantinou (five goals, nine assists) and Marty Williams (93 saves with 11 goals against).

East Rochester – Chuck Domm (15 goals, five assists), Russell Domm (eight goals, seven assists), Max Wagner (five goals, seven assists), Nathan Jantz (six goals, seven assists), Austin Mack (four goals) and Michael Raschiatore (91 saves with 20 goals against).

Coaches: Jim Newby (Williamson), Mike Domm (East Rochester)

History 101: Williamson is seeking revenge for the 2-0 loss to Byron-Bergen/Elba in the finals last year. East Rochester, on the other hand, was eliminated in the first round last season with a narrow loss to Pembroke.

The matchup is set for 7 PM on Wednesday, October 24 at Webster Schroeder.

 

No. 2 seed Byron-Bergen/Elba Bees (15-3-0/LCAA-GR Division IV) vs. No. 3 seed Sodus Spartans (11-5-2/Wayne County)

How they got here: The Bees beat Red Creek 5-1 in the first round and Cuba-Rushford 4-1 in the quarterfinals. Sodus has yet to be scored upon in sectional play with a 5-0 win over Pavilion/York and 3-0 over Holley.

Season matchup: First matchup of the 2018 season

Names to know: Byron-Bergen/Elba – Wade Thompson (20 goals, 11 assists), Sam Pringle (17 goals, six assists), Kyle Foeller (10 goals, 14 assists), Greyson Huntington (seven goals, three assists), Josh Swapceinski (two goals, five assists), Nick Baubie (141 saves with 16 goals assists)

Sodus – Will Lamar (18 goals, five assists), Ryan DeBadts (10 goals, eight assists), Collin Karasinski (six goals, 13 assists), Marquese Burton (one goals, four assists), Kyle Zerbe (three goals), Marcellus Burton (three assists) and John Molisani (93 saves with 18 goals against).

Coaches: Ken Rogoyski (Byron-Bergen/Elba), Kevin Hauck (Sodus)

History 101: The Spartans are looking for revenge against the Bees, as Byron-Bergen/Elba ended Sodus’s season last year in the semis. The Bees went on to win the championship and advanced to the NYS Class finals.

A 5 PM start is scheduled on Wednesday at Webster Schroeder.
