BROCKPORT, N.Y.- The College at Brockport men’s soccer team defeated to Houghton College Tuesday night, by a score of 2-1. With the win, Brockport moves to 12-4-2 overall record, while the Highlanders fall to 6-10 overall.
The Highlanders offense found the scoresheet first, creating a hole in the Brockport defense and capitalizing at 15:04 of the first half. The Golden Eagles didn’t let the early goal faze them, outshooting Houghton 7-2 in the first 45.
The second half saw more run and gun offense from the Green and Gold, outshooting Houghton 6-2. At 60:04 Brockport forward Mathew Stefaniw (Eastridge), beat a defender and fired a shot off the post. Then, at 74:50 of the second half, the Golden Eagles tied the game after the ball pinballed around the Highlanders box and found the back of the net. The goal was credited as an “own goal” tying the game at one goal apiece. Brockport continued to pour on the offense as the half winded down but the two teams would need extra time to crown a winner.
The Golden Eagles won their 12th game of the season with two and a half minutes left in overtime after a Houghton player committed a foul inside his own box. The foul awarded a penalty kick to AJ Sinclair, who beat the Houghton goalie for his 4th goal of the year.
The Green and Gold are back in action Saturday, Oct. 27 when they host Plattsburgh State in the SUNYAC quarterfinals.
